It's coiled wire. It did have a plastic cap but they found it and were chewing it so I took it away before one of them could swallow it.

I see that there is no soft plastic or rubber thing on the end of the door stop.  Did you take it off or did they?  Is it rigid or one of those coiled wire ones.  If it is wire, they will have a ball with it.
