I hope we can manage to get another Corgi sooner rather than later.  I'm so lost without Winston I'm seriously considered naming the new one Winston Jr.  Actually we called him Winnie.   We've found a good breeder an hour and a half from where we live and they're expecting two litters in about two weeks.  Our daughter is getting married October 6th and between now and then I'm not sure we can squeeze in a visit to the Corgi farm but I think we might be able to manage it.  : )  The timing might be perfect for us to pick out a puppy and then attend the wedding.   We're hopeful.   I'm glad you converted your boyfriend to a Corgi lover !

I believe it was about 8 months between Ari's passing and getting Tomahawk into our family. I would have gotten dog a lot sooner, but since I really didn't know much about corgis I tried to research as much as I could before committing to one. I was trying to find a dog that would be a polar opposite of Ari and I did with Tomahawk. I have never had such a rambunctious dog and I REALLY love it. Tom is so confident and a clown that he always does something to make my day a good one. Honestly, I was ready for a new dog about a month after Ari died, but my boyfriend was more a cat person and wanted me to hold off on getting a new one. I think I converted him to being at least a corgi lover! :]

Thank you for reminding me I'm not the only one that falls apart at the seams when a pet dies.  It's not like I don't realize they're all going to die some day, but I just don't deal well with it when it happens.  It's kind of hard to prepare for it.  How soon after Ari died did you get a puppy ?

I was an utter wreck when my Ari died. I cried so much I didn't know if I would ever stop. Every little thing reminded me of him that I constantly felt my heart breaking. I know it drove everyone crazy, but I couldn't help myself. I really believe that when they pass, they take a piece of us with them. That's why it hurts so much. I really hope that you find a new baby soon. Getting a corgi puppy really helped me. They keep you busy and help you fill that missing piece again. Plus, they are so cute!

I believe you've captured how I feel.  My heart does feel shattered.  It's so hard to lose a dog suddenly, but then how could it ever happen that it wouldn't be difficult.  We're looking for another Corgi and quite frankly we can't find one soon enough !

My boy Tom loves cleaning my female's ears. He does it every morning. He'll even do it to us if we let him. Your Winston was a handsome boy and I am so sorry for your loss. It completely shattered my heart when my cocker Ari died. I hope you find another wonderful corgi to love and cherish.

I meant to say, "He's quite active, eats well and is a very normal 14 year old Westie". I've got Corgi on the brain these days.

Ear cleaning time.  Winnie was like a little nursemaid to our almost 15 year old male Westie whose name was Sparky.  He passed away in February of 2010.  We have another Westie named Wesley who is 14 years old.  He has just a touch of congestive heart failure and takes 30 mgs of lasix a day.  He initially had a slight cough which is how we knew he had CHF.  Every once in a while he has a momentary cough, but rarely.  He's quite active, eats well and is a very normal 14 year old Corgi.  Since Winston died, we're kind of on edge knowing that Wes will be the next to go.   You've just got to love them and not worry, but sometimes it's hard.
