I have one. His name is Chobie and he's around 9 years old. He was bought, but I consider it a rescue situation. I was at a flea market when I spotted a Pembroke in this small cage, no bigger than he was. He couldnt even stand up, had bearly any water and it was a hot day. I was really wanting a corgi at the time and he looked in bad shape. He was skinny, his coat looked like it haven't even been brushed in years and his teeth were horrible. I was with my dad and we both felt so sorry for him. We bought him off the owner for about $50. They said he was 5 years old. I happily carried him to the car. My parents stopped at Walmart to get a new collar and leash and some shampoo for him. I was sitting in the car with him and everytime someone passed by, he would jump up trying to get their attention.
Well he's still the center of attention. Anytime we have family gatherings at our house, they always want to see Chobie. He's so sweet.
Now he's gained weight, his teeth look great, and his coat clean. The only thing than hasn't changed is he still gets scared and yelps whenever someone's feet get to close to him. I'm thinking he's been kicked before. I don't think he will grow out of it.
He's had a weird past, but he has a forever home with me. =]
*EDIT* Im sad to say that Chobie died this morning of punemonia. He was taken to the vet yesterday and treated with antibiotics, but they just couldnt save him. I miss him so much. :[ 8-27-08
I'm so sorry to hear that your Chobie has gone to rainbow bridge. I'm sure you are missing him terribly but, what wonderful memories you have of him. You can and will always be comforted that the fact is you rescued him and gave him alot of love and his last years were very happy (he's smiling in his pictures). Corgi's are such special dogs with wonderful personalties, so they are hard to forget when they pass away. I'm sure when the time is right you will most definetely get a gorgeous new corgi pup and have alot of happy years together. Thinking of you. x
Hi Chelsey, Thanks for the welcome! Your Chobie is adorable! He really has that foxy face. So, you are in the found by a fluff group...do you consider Chobie a Fluff? I guess there's alldifferent lengths and I'll be curious to see how Maggie turns out. Sue and Maggie
Thank you, Chelsey! I will admit that Bon Bon "used to be" very photogenic. Something happened about two years ago (a really bad lightning storm? repressed memories of something she was abused with?) that suddenly made her deathly afraid of cameras. We now can only get pics by surprise, and she goes off hiding for an hour afterward. That stinks since, as you know, there are SO many great shots you can get of a Corgi in various contexts!
Chobie looks very photogenic himself. I just want to give him a huge hug! And Thank you for rescuing him...
That was more than a rescue situation, imagine anyone doing that to any dog never mind a CORGI! I would be over the moon if I found a corgi for sale at the flea market for just $50, I would of snapped him up too. I'm so glad he has got a proper owner now who cares for him.
What a great story and I'm glad you gave him a nice forever home with lots of love and attention. Cute name too! Is this his original name or did you name him yourself?
