The Temple of Boom

Profile Information

Hometown:
San Antonio, TX
About Me:
First-time corgi owner here. Always wanted to own one because it's a full-size dog with half-size legs. What I DIDN'T know about corgis could fill books. Thank goodness there's a relatively large learning curve...
About My Corgi(s):
I only have one corgi, my first, Boomer. I gave him a big dog name because I thought it would be ironic in a fun way, like naming a toy poodle "Fang" or "Killer". Instead, he has grown into his name, as his bark goes to 11. And while he may be a "little dog", he's got a big soul. He's about a year and a half old now (got him July '07), his coloring is sable and white with hints of black on his head, ears, and tail. He's a svelte 37 pounds (the vet said he isn't fat, he's just...dense...like a black hole...that no treat can escape from him).

He loves to walk, run, wrestle, eat, bark, play with kids, eat, shred loofa dogs all over my apartment, randomly run all over my apartment like he's playing a game only he knows the rules to, put things in his mouth that he should, put things in his mouth that he shouldn't (like kids), eat, and swim (never underestimate the buoyancy of the Pembroke Welsh corgi!)

He's my bud.

The Temple of Boom #6 - "Who's Scruffy-looking?"

Posted on December 16, 2008 at 4:48pm 3 Comments

For those of you who didn't know, I entered Boomer into the local PetsMart "Howl-o-ween" costume contest. I had several reasons for doing this - 1.) I myself was not planning on dressing up for Halloween, so I had that idle time on my hands; 2.) a co-worker had made Boomer a custom Han Solo shirt and vest a year ago (during an abortive attempt to do "Howl-oween" last year); and 3.) I'm all about putting my dog in embarrassing situations since he seems more than comfortable putting me in the… Continue

The Temple of Boom #5 - Watchu talkin' 'bout, Willis!

I don't want you all to think that I'm crazy. However, I will not deny that at times I can be awfully weird and it dawned on me, a few months back, that prior to acquiring Boomer, I used to talk to myself while wandering around the apartment. They weren't long, drawn-out conversations or anything, and I'm not schizophrenic, but sometimes it was good to talk something out for it to make sense, along the lines of "Should I wear that?" or "What will my co-workers say if I show up wearing that?"… Continue

Start Random Observation…

Boomer’s back legs always look like he just got off a horse. And he wiggles his butt when he walks. Which would explain the desire of other dogs to hump him, I guess.

End Random Observation…

Boomer’s ears are wonderful in the fact they are completely indicative of how he’s feeling. Straight up means he’s wide awake and ready to play. Ears half-mast means a little tired. Ears straight out from the side of his head means this dog is about… Continue

The Temple of Boom #3 – Welcome to the Jungle

Posted on November 13, 2008 at 9:16am 5 Comments

So when I finally got Boomer home, the very first day, he fell asleep in the middle of living room and stayed there for 2-3 hours, giving me more than enough time to grapple with a hideous case of buyer’s remorse/OhwhatthehellhaveIdone!

One of the first things you notice about puppies is their incredibly sharp teeth. Like needles, they are. And Boomer, very quickly (like instantaneously), developed a toe fetish. He’d never met a toe he didn’t like…or want to put in his… Continue

The Temple of Boom #2 - Handbaggin'

Posted on November 10, 2008 at 7:36pm 5 Comments

I found Boomer through an ad in the local classifieds. The lady described herself as a breeder located near Sedalia, Missouri (about an hour and a half away). I decided that it was now or never, that if I didn't take this opportunity, I would make up excuses not to do so for the rest of my life. So I called and set-up a time to swing out to see the puppies on their farm (there were 3 male puppies available at the time).

So I and two others who shall remain nameless took the trip out… Continue

Boomer is adorable! Love the Han Solo outfit. Trunks feels the same way about being dressed up. Pandora on the other hand loves it.

Can't wait to learn more about Boomer!

I loooove the Han Solo costume pictures! What a great story! Caleb was a pumpkin, and while he didn't bite me, I couldn't get a picture of him where he didn't look miserable.

OMG! Your blogs just crack me up, and I totally agree with the fact that books are so not helpful sometimes. Maybe you should publish all your little stories so that there is a "real" book about corgis out there. LOL I would buy it. It is so much more helpful to hear real stories about real dogs instead of a generalization about what they "should" be like. Because mine is so not your typical corgi. And she will tell you that. Looking forward to the next installment... Boomer is adorable.

Hiya Craig and Boomer! I love your pictures. What a handsome boy! I can tell that Boomer is a character, just like I can tell Craig is a character from his "about me" and "about my corgi" posts. lol...they are great!
