I have a Corgi / Westie mix.  I've had Westie's in the past, and they were quite fond of water.  My new little mix HATES the water.  Baths are an all out wrestling match. (And boy is she strong.) …Continue

Aglppy replied to Aber, Ragnar and Kelso's discussion Scottie/Corgi Mix?
"I have also found that very interesting.  Most every Corgi mix I have seen has the body shape of the Corgi but the coat and "look" of the other dog.  We always say our's is a Corgi stuffed into a Westie suit."

Aglppy replied to Aber, Ragnar and Kelso's discussion Scottie/Corgi Mix?
"Hmmm … definitely has terrier in her.  From the ears, I think you may have been right with Corgi/Wheaten mix.  And her fur looks much softer than either the Corgi or Westie.  Perhaps she has taken on the size of the Corgi…"

Aglppy replied to Aber, Ragnar and Kelso's discussion Scottie/Corgi Mix?
"How adorable!!  I find it interesting that Corgi mixed with Scottie or Westie looks a lot like the terrier in the face and fur ... but has the body, feet and tail of a Corgi.  Makes for very cute dogs.  My Westie/Corgi mix definitely…"

"He is adorable. I have the Westie/Corgi mix. He reminds me of her, except she is white. It appears Corgis mixed with Scotties or Westies make pretty cute dogs."

Aglppy replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"Makes total sense. She also hates anything that buzzes loudly ... lawn mowers, grooming clippers, etc. It's probably too loud for her. I'm wondering if she would fit in my kitchen sink. Then she wouldn't be down so low in the tub. Who…"

Beth replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"Yes, start her with small fun things. I had Jack in water but made the mistake of never having him swim, so he's my wader! This past autumn we were able to get him to a place with a gently sloping bottom and no waves. I went in and actually…"

Avyon replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"No what I figured out about the bath (I think) is their ears are so sensitive, so if you put your head low in the tub, the water sound echos loudly and their so low standing in there. I haven't tried it yet but I was thinking of just filling…"

"Roxy is our rescue dog. They estimated her age to be around two. So we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to train her from a puppy. But perhaps a wading pool this summer will teach her to like water more, even at age two. And her Fox…"

Aglppy replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"The life vest is a great idea! Thanks. Roxy has a long body too ... and when she has fallen into the pool chasing the Fox Terrier (who swims constantly) her bum sunk. Then she panics and the front feet start flailing. Once, and only once, she did…"

Avyon replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"We had the same problem with Roxi and I figured out it was because 1. she jumped into the river too fast when she was a pup and got pulled away too fast thus her fear started and 2. her body is so long she didnt know how to learn to control with her…"

"All of mine have loved water but they were exposed to it at an early age."

Susan Stanton replied to Aglppy's discussion Water ... is it a Corgi thing?
"Bertie loves water too -- he used to jump in any water he saw, until he jumped in a deep river and lost a little control (feet in air, head under, not happy) -- so now he is a confirmed wader, but he will swim under pressure (like, if you're on…"

"I just wanted to throw something out there. My dad has trained various bird dogs for decades, including field trialing English Pointers. He's had several dogs of different breeds that spend at least some of their time doing water…"
