I use a shedding blade on Charlie for 5-10 minutes a day, plus a fine-toothed comb on his "pants". Some days no fur comes out, and other days we get quite a bit of undercoat before it's all off. He really only needs brushing about 2 or 3 times a week, but he loves the way it feels, so it's our after-walk ritual before we come back inside.

A warm bath will help loosen the hair. If you have access to a cool dryer bathe, towel and blow dry outside as the hair will fly! After drying you may use a "rake" one of my favorite tools along with a greyhound comb and furmitor. Frequent grooming is the key to keep shedding at a minimum. I do not recommend shaving.
It doesnt make you a bad owner, but shaving a corgi isnt the best for it. I think there were couple forums on people who accidentally shaved their dogs. the guard hairs grow slower(I think it said a couple of years) than the inner coat and the double coat helps corgis regulate boy temperature.
If you shave your corgi then you are taking away the protection from the heat and cold. I have heard really good things about the furminator, I cant wait to buy one myself!
