I have been seeing so much on bad dog food and all the poor innocent dogs dying or becoming very sick. Most recently I have seen information and even a few on this site about Nutro dog food. I have been feeding Max Nutro since he first came to us 6 months ago. He seems to be fine and enjoys the puppy food, but I don't want to take any chances. Unfortunately I just stocked up on this stuff but completely willing to change. Problem is, I know there are several other brands that have caused these problems as well. Does any body have suggestions on which brands out there are still safe to feed out little guys? Have been doing some research myself but would like some input from any of you as well. Thank you.

I used the dogfoodanalysis site, as well. I felt information overload, but really well informed after going through it. We decided on Natural Balance Ultra Premium because two of our dogs have allergies. Within two weeks of starting the NB, our allergy dogs were improving amazingly. There are so many foods out there, but I've come to believe that avoiding wheat, soy, corn and any form of glutens are essential to dog health.

It is stressful trying to find a food that is safe and good for our little fur buddies. I definitely looks at the dogfoodanalysis.com reviews of food to find the one for our pup! That site is REALLY helpful!

Orijen recently had a recall, too, but the reason was quite different. They used the wrong size filter of some sort, and fishbones got into the food. Not good, but its the best kind of recall - something natural instead of chemical. They dealt with it very well, and no dogs were harmed, as far as I know (the bones were very noticeable). I currently feed a mix of Orijen and Blue Buffalo. Blue is a good one to start with because PetSmart carries it an it is not too expensive.

Most of the recalls that I have read about have been directed at canned varieties. The bit of research I have done also reports renal issues as a result, not heart issues. Good to keep updated as best you can regarding recalls. Lets face it unless we grow it, harvest it and cook it we really dont know what could be in any of the foods we or our animals consume. Just be a smart consumer, buy premium foods and deal with reputable sources. Keep yourself informed via the net.
