You'll have to excuse me if I seem pissed... it's, well, because I AM. Some may agree with me, some may not, and this writing may sound harsh, but it's because I am upset and angry at the moment. Why?

Because my dog was viciously attacked yesterday by a dog that was not leashed.

Many areas have laws that state ALL dogs MUST be on a leash. These laws exists for a reason. They were not created to be a nuisance. Their purpose is to protect yourself, your dog and other people and their dogs as well. Vash and I were on our regular pre-dinner walk. We walk a similar route everyday. The route ALWAYS incorporates this same block, right up the street from our house. We have walked in front of this particular house many, many times since getting Vash. The dog that attacked Vash is ALWAYS OFF LEASH. My fiancee did point out to me, that the owners seem to get nervous whenever we walk past their house with Vash when their dog is out. I never thought anything of this. Why should I? I am just minding my own business, walking my dog. But yesterday I found out the reason for their anxious behavior. As I walked by their house, I saw the dog. Not sure what breed it is- I just know it is 3 times the size of Vash and outweighs him by at least 60+ pounds. Vash, as usual, had his nose pointed to the ground, looking for things to eat (he really enjoys cigarette butts...). The attack was completely unprovoked. My dog never made eye-contact with theirs, never even SAW it. The next thing I knew, this huge animal was on top of my dog, biting, snarling, growling. Vash screamed and yelped in pain and fear. For a second, I just stood there, I was SO shocked. After that split second though, I jumped between them screaming and yelling (and probably cussing too....) The owner ran over and yelled/grabbed at his dog. It lasted all of maybe, 7 seconds, but it was enough to cause problems. I quickly checked Vash out and he wasn't bleeding, at least that I could see. The owner of the vicious dog did ask if Vash was ok, and he did apologize...but honestly....that is not enough. My puppy could have been seriously injured physically, and mentally...who knows what role this incident will play in his psycological development...

Needless to say, I stomped off and gave him a stern warning: "Keep that thing on a leash! You're asking for a lawsuit!"

I re-checked Vash when I got home, but he was really fidgity, so it was difficult. When my finacee got home soon after, he checked him also, then we called the police. Yes, I filed a report. The officer said he would give the owners a warning to keep their animal on a leash, and if I saw that they were not complying, I should report them. Which I will. Physically, Vash seems ok. But he is VERY nervous and anxious now- he barks at everything, even common/everyday things. I hope he is ok, and does not become fearful of other animals because of this.

I just ask: please, regardless whether your dog has behavioral issues or not, keep them leashed. For your sake, AND for everyone elses'....

I am so sorry that this happened to you!! I have had the same problem but with the invisible fences with Corey my older dog. It is scary when you think the other dog is safe but then the next thing you know they are growling in your dogs face. I think because corgi's are so small in stature.

I am SO with you, Mei! We used to have a home on our walk route where the dogs were frequently loose. It scared me to death. One day as we walked by, one charged us and started chewing on Bruce. Luckily the owner was there and dragged his dog off mine, but he lost his shorts in the process. They moved soon after (hmm, wonder if I scared him).
We hike often and our dogs are always leashed. So many times we encounter unleashed dogs, and I'll tell the owner "dogs are required to be leashed here". They brush me off, saying "oh, he's /she's friendly". I respond "that's great, but HE'S not" (pointing to my big huge lab/dane mix). See, Chester is skittish and gets very hostile if a strange dog comes up to him. It stresses me out to have to keep irresponsible owner's dogs away from my hairtrigger pooch.

Best wishes with Vash. I'm sure he'll be just fine.

Dear Mei-ling and Vash: We hope that you are all right. Please be super-corgi strong. Go to some fun obedience classes or agility or herding to realize there are fun things to do! Please also stay away from dog parks at this time. We send happy healing thoughts to you both, corgi hugs from Bear, Tasha and Linus

Poor Vash! I would recheck him for puncture wounds. They don't always bleed and close quickly; this can lead to infection. Even if you don't see anything, watch him closely!

If these people were always nervous about their dog, why wasn't it leashed? You should be able to walk down your street and not worry about being attacked! There are leash laws for a reason.

When I lived in Wyoming, no one kept their dogs on a leash even though there was a leash law. I would walk Pan around the block every night. Several times I came close to having my puppy attacked. Once a stray dog (very large) came at us. I thought it belonged to the people who were out in front of a house, so I really didn't think anything of it. Then one of the guys started yelling for me to pick up Pan, and he came running at the dog. It ran down the alley away from us. He told me that the dog had been hanging around and was vicious. A couple weeks after that we were almost attacked by a Rottweiler (sp?) in the yard of our apartment. It was pretty scary.

Poor Vash! I agree that people should keep their dogs on a leash, and if I were you I would of called the cops too! I hope that Vash will be okay and will be able to recover from nervousness!

I hate things like this! People who are bad dog owners don't do us responsible ones any favors. Just remember, the quicker you are able to get over this, the better...Vash will hang onto this incedent as long as you do. Dogs live life one moment at a time unless we continue to live in the past for them. Happy walking!

Poor Vash! I'm so glad he's ok. I haven't walked Jack in my neighborhood for this very reason. There's a huge Boxer that roams about, and two others that get let out whenever they want, and they've made contact with Jack. They didn't attack, but they got into his personal space, and wanted to play, so they jumped at Jack, and that sent him running behind me in a fit of squeals. People just don't seem to care about other people and their dogs. I hope Vash isn't too scared to go on walks now! <3

Awww... Reese knows what Vash went through... she just went through almost the same thing. Although our neighbors dog was leashed, but wasn't leash onto something that was sturdy enough. My boyfriend was outside with Reese and ended up talking to the neighbor and Reese was just minding her own business. Well his Chocolate Lab was barking and jerking from his leash to get to Reese. Reese noticed the dog and thought she would be nice and try to meet the lab, Matt tugged on her leash and said no. Before you know it the lab broke the chain off whatever it was tied up to and jumped on little Reese. She was crying and yelping, my bf was finally able to pick her up and she crawled all the way up his neck. The neighbor was very apologetic and told us that if his dog hurt her he would take care of everything. From that day, Reese wants nothing to do with big dogs and is fine with ones her size. Some dogs are just a little too aggressive and not well socialize unfortunately. Good luck with Vash!

I can't believe people that have aggressive dogs and don't keep them on leash. Glad Vash is ok and very glad to hear you filed a police report. People need to take responsibility for their animals.
