Been reading a little about training my dog... maybe a lot. Read pretty much all of "Dog Training for Dummies" except where it got into training for shows. No where near ready for that at this point. Archie is the smartest dog ever and I really do blame myself for his current behavior. I had a hard time where I was at in my life and I did neglect him quite a bit. I think this led to his current state of aggression. He's fine with people he's met before but on walks, it's horrid. He tries to attack people and not in subtle way but total out right aggression. Leaping, growling, barking. shows teeth. I'm determined to help him and train him to behave. He knows basic commands: down, sit, bark, shake, play dead, roll over.. but he doesn't always do the tricks if he doesn't want to anticipates what he will be asked to do next. He needs a lot more social activity, mental tricks, walks/exercise, and just basic training to behave. I think I'll get "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Positive Training" later today. I'm determined to devote myself to him and get him into classes if possible. I already have Greg on board and he's going to help me out with Archie. My parents wanted to put him down. I have to at least try and I really don't think it's anything where I can't get him training to overcome it. It'll be an extreme challenge but at this point, I am up to it. =) For the love of corgi's. XP
Let's see. Got him petinsurance: www.petcareinsurance.com Got him the lower plan at this point. He's going to be three in July. Agh. Um, dog food I've decided to switch him to is Nature's Variety Instinct they sell this close by at: wagnwash.com He tends to poo a lot on walks and always tries to go to the bathroom even if he has already gone. Thought a food change may help and Instinct is supposed to be premium dog food.
I'd like to get him into agility training. That would be awesome. At this point it will have to be baby steps with training to walk properly on a leash. And I'd like to incorporate the NILF training with him at home.
Yup, Archie's future life is all planned out. hehe. I'm excited and yet I know it'll be lots of work. I'm determined to have a well behaved and obedient corgi and I know it'll take a lot of patience on my part.
