I received this story in an e-mail today, and i thought it was so horrible!!! my intent is to share the story, it is totally definitely up to you should you decide to sign the petition below

In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death.

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

Does it look like art to you?

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.

PLEASE HELP STOP HIM.

I believe this is a hoax. Watch this NBC News video on the topic. http://video.nbc10.com/player/?id=241333#videoid=205850

If this NBC news report is onto something, then this exhibit may be something of a photoshop hoax and the whole story contrived to make another point. The artist could be making a point translated to English as "You Are What You Read". This whole story has circulated mainly through blogs and chatrooms. NBC was unable to confirm any facts, including the location of the exhibit. If the artist is really just making a point that people believe much of what they read on the internet (You are what you read) then it is "shockingly" brilliant. Signing the petition solidly supports his point, so I will abstain for now from signing.

On the other hand, this is not a publicity stunt and the guy really tortured the dog for art's sake, he should be locked up for life.

I'll be interested in the story's outcome.

I was alerted to this a few weeks back and find this the most disgusting thing. I signed the petition and left a message at the artists myspace and emailed him to tell him how offensive this was and if he were in the USA he'd probably be in jail right now.

I checked out Snopes.com (what I consider the most reliable source for checking out stories like this and they had this response. http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/vargas.asp. Since the story is currently unconfirmed as either true or false, I am going to sign the petition, I figure it can't hurt.
