So I took Daisy for a walk today near some train tracks. When we got home a few minutes ago, we discovered that she has tar on the back of her legs...any suggestions on how to get this off?

Thanks!

I read online that goo gone works. We tried it last night and, with patience, it seems to be coming off little by litte. Thanks for all that gave me advice!

Are you sure that it is actually tar? Railroad ties are soaked in a product called creosote; which is a super nasty oil. Nasty in that it is difficult to get off. I have done a lot of jump maintenance (horse jumps) that involved using creosote. The only thing that I found that would get it off was repeated washing with an oil remover product. This may however not be the best option for a dog (it would dry out her skin and the product may be harmful). I would suggest bathing her once or twice and then consider trimming the rest off. Best of luck!

I remember this happening to my dog when I was little. We had to take vegetable oil and work it into the tar. It takes a while, you really have to take each chunk of fur and rub in the oil, which kind of slides off the tar. And depending where it is, you could just trim some of it off. Then she'll need a good long bath to get all the oil off! Good luck!
