well this is a first for me. And I thought she was such a good little girl...well she was so naughty today while i was out shopping. Lil Miss Annie kept herself busy today while I was gone digging up my carpet in front of the fireplace. Yep she dug for her little hearts content. At first when I seen it, it looked like a toy she tore apart till I got closer and seen my carpet in pieces...omg...lol! My husband said oh how cute her being a puppy. Ok, not cute but her being a puppy lets her off the hook for now. And I did want new carpet but holy cow. I do hope she doesnt do it again. Annie is digging out side too so looks like it is time to put a stop to it.

Bulk bitter apple?
The stuff works on most things. The edges of the couches and the little wine rack he started to get intrested in. My back-living room coffee table is safe, but when he finds something he really just wants to eat it, and I mean he makes a break for these things when I turn for a second. If he can get 3 seconds of chew in and spend 5 hours in time out he would be just happy. The side door, not the carpet or the frame noooo, the door. When it seperated from the frame and the bare wood on the side is exposed he clings to it like stalone in Cliffhanger. The door, this ONE spot of carpet, this other spot also but not too often, either he doesnt like the second spot or it's exceptionally tastey and he saves some for later. Oh and the leash.

Yes, yes they did. ANd they left one under the upholstery of our sofa, since Sid keeps trying to eat it even after numerous applications of Bitter Apple. I should buy stock. Does Costco sell it by the gallon, by any chance?

Cheez-it's only done it a few times and I corrected him each time. I know he is probably going to keep doing it, I cant think of a dog I have had/lived with that did not do this as a puppy. I suppose it's just a matter of training. I might squirt-bottle him only when he does this. There is one spot he loves to try and chew (no damage yet), so I put Granicks Bitter Apple on it as it is supposed to taste horrible for dogs. (It keeps him from eating my couch). But that one spot he just loves. I think the builders left a sirloin steak under the foam there?

It is good to hear I am not alone. Monty has just started to gnaw on our carpets. Again I don't know why because he does it while surrounded by toys and chews. He is 4.5 months. He loves to dig on the bed and towels on the floor but the eating of the carpet is new and annoying. I could understand if he was trapped or didn't have any toys but so not the case. Any tips on stopping this behavior is welcome.

Cheez-it has started going for the carpet with his teeth, he doesnt "dig" yet though. I know that Cats do that because scent glands on their paws help them "mark" their smell on things and it's the only way they can clean their nails.

Winston loves to tear up carpets. It's obnoxious. My mom just got new carpet and he attacked it once but luckily I stopped him! In my old apartment and in my room now he's ripped up little holes.. He has lots of toys so I don't get why he does that! Very frustrating. :(

One day our old corgi mix accidentally got locked in my son's room. When we got home and I could not find him I was in a complete panic! Then I heard him bark and found him. He was OK but very glad to be out of there. In his attempt to escape the room he dug up the carpet and pad, all the way down to the foundation, right in front of the door. I felt so bad for him I could not be mad. It is really old carpet anyway and should be replaced...someday. For now we have an area rug over it.

Funny, he used to like to hang out in my son's room. Now he does not set foot in there.

I don't know.. .Andy used to dig at the carpet but it was something he would do after "frapping"-- he would run like an insane bunnybutt all over the house, stop, sneeze, and then start pawing at the carpet like he's pretending to dig. He never destroyed the carpet-- he would just digdigdigdigdig for like a minute or so and then sneeze again and pant.... and then something would set him off again and he'd go frappin' again and diggin again.

I'm so sorry about the destroyed carpet. At least you wanted to replace it, right? Annie did you a favor. :-)

bailey digs his crate pad in his crate at night - he hasn't destroyed it... yet. its so weird - shouldnt they know theres nothing under there (unlike dirt which actually leads so somewhere. i think digging in carpet or anything like that brings up new interesting smells from yesteryear. lol.. =X..
