This morning i was walking around out side with Alex and Charlie.... I sat down in the grass and watched them chase and tackle each other. Alex got tired of the game and sat by the door. So i took both of them inside to the kitchen. But when I left the kitchen Charlie and Alex started going crazy. Alex always barks, and its usually just at a tree or something...but when Charlie barks, I know something is wrong. So I go back in the kitchen to calm them down but when i looked out the window, there was a huge coyote walking around on our patio. The coyotes never usually come that close... he is one of a family that lives in our tennis court. So I picked up Alex and let Charlie outside to scare the coyote away because Charlie can handle one coyote. Then I left Alex in the kitchen and also walked round out there. Once the coyote saw me coming towards him, he quickly sped off down the street... Does anyone that is reading this have a coyote problem because now i cant ever let alex out by herself... Is there really anything i can do? Alex believes that she can handle coyotes, but Im worried that if i let her out alone she will be in a lot of trouble :(

Unfortunately relocating coyotes simply makes room for the next coyote. Coyotes are adapting to a more urban environment and they have been very successful. We live in the country and hear coyotes often, but we have an "outdoor" Leonberger. Quite large and I'm sure that discourages the coyotes from coming into the farmplace. While most often a coyote with retreat from an aggressive dog--size becomes an issue. Coyote was no doubt looking for a snack--not your dog, but perhaps food that was left out? They are opportunistic eaters and will take what is easy. Not sure that a Corgi would be an easy target. Good luck. You are right to be cautious with Alex. (FYI--I used to be a wildlife biologist)

This year in Florida there were several coyote attacks on small dogs in my area. They were spotted in several gated communities, and people became very fearful of them. Several small dogs were attacked and killed!
