I'm not sure what's up with poor KC, but every time after she eats, she licks her paws like crazy and her eyes get red. We have her on a nice kibble that is free of chicken and corn and all that other weird by-product stuff, but she's still licking her mittens. She burps a lot too after eating, but I think that's just because she has bad manners. Any suggestions? (For the itchiness, not the burping.)

would give half tablet of benadryl. This eases Eddy's seasonal allergies. This is what the vet told us to do before doing the whole freaking out and assuming it is his food, our laundry detergent, the dog park water, everything, etc. And we had to take no further steps. Just because it only happens at specific times does not always mean it is NOT seasonal stuff. For Eddy, he would get red-eyed and itchy at night even though we would play in the pollen all day long.

Hi Kristin, If you've already ruled out food allergies, there are other causes such as household carpet cleaners, vacuum powders, pollen, pesticide residue in grass, even walking on hot sidewalk can cause injury to paw pads.

I meant to post a link to the food that has a zipcode thing to find where you can buy it:

Royal Canin has an excellent hypoallergenic food. They literally shut down the factory and clean it before they make it to make sure there's nothing else in it. So you could get that and keep her on it for two weeks to figure out if it is, in fact, a food allergy. Then if it is a food allergy she can stay on that food (its expensive though I think) or start experimenting with foods with different protein sources to see which one she won't have a reaction to.
