Noodles has reverse sneezing episodes quite often and they were taking place so often that his vet asked me to document what lead up to it taking place and for how long they lasted. He had 8 of them in one year, but he hasn't had any recently (I would say within the last 8 months). It always scares me (and my husband) because it sounds like Noodles is going to die. I think the scariest time was when I couldn't get him to stop (by covering his nose to force him to breathe through his mouth) and his whole body just stiffened up. He actually fell over and I couldn't get him to stand up or calm down. It took us 5 minutes to get him to stop. I have not a clue what causes this and I feel bad when Noodles does this.

This is reserve sneezing - caused by irritation to the throat, pharynx or laryngeal area.
Asthma on the other hand is a little different, your dog will "open" his mouth trying to breath, very much like human - gasping for air, he will move his body around pawing at his face over and over.
Was it asthma, or reverse sneezing? In reverse sneezing, they sound sort of like they are trying to suck in repeatedly to clear out their throat. It's harmless. Animals can have asthma. My cat had it briefly and she would have wheezing/coughing fits a few times a day. She did not need treatment and it cleared up after about 6 months. We had just moved and I think the off--gassing of the new house set her off.
I just wanted to know if it was possible because my dog woke up with asthmatic type symptoms and I was just wondering if not that should I be worried?? He seems fine fight now but he was gasping so it sounded like this morning!
