Errrgh. So Rex is experiencing his first bout of back pain. I knew this day would come, but I was hoping not so soon! He's almost 7. I got a new bed and it's higher up, and he's just jumping on and off it constantly. He has a step that he uses to go up, but not on the way down. So he might just have to be crated at night, which really sucks. He doesn't understand why he has to be in a crate at night all of a sudden. I didn't realize how much jumping he does on a daily basis until his vet told me "no jumping" for 2 weeks. Fortunately he's on Dasuquin and he's at an ideal weight. He would probably be feeling a lot worse if he weren't.

Our Zeta has some attacks of back and hip pain. The first time, poor Brian was panicked. He's a first time puppy parent, and was completely alarmed by her sudden lack of activity. When her back and hips start acting up, she doesn't want to move, eat, go outside. Our vet gave us Rimadyl, and suggested Happy Hips treats. I'll admit, we do occasionally spoil Zeta, so we did actually factor in her hip pain when we bought a new bed. She was very appreciative :)

Yeah my dog Bella is overweight and the vet warned us that if she didn't shed some pounds, she might have problems in the future. I hope you can find a good solution for no jumping so that Rex doesn't need to go in his crate at night!
