As we were newlyweds in our first home… we had quite a lot on our plate. We both really wanted a dog… we knew we needed more time. Of course life is what happens while you are making plans.

We both agreed that we would like a sable and white, female, Pembroke. So when we saw a flyer at the local pet store about a corgi pup that was coming we were so excited. (Corgis are very uncommon in our area, the closest breeder is more than 6 hours away. )

The sign said they were expecting a female Pembroke in 4 weeks. We waited excitedly for the puppy. We kept checking back at the store…after 6 weeks we asked when the pup was coming. They told us that the puppy was staying with the breeder a few more weeks. She was tiny even for a runt and  needed some more time with her mom.

We went to visit 2 days after she showed up. OMG! ADORABLE, from her heart shaped nose to her knobby little legs! (She was tiny about the size of a guinea pig!)

We asked to see her in their puppy play room. She romped around and gave us tons of kisses! She had a sweet personality and took a nap on my husband’s lap.

She was perfect, but the timing wasn’t right. My husband suggested we ask his mom’s advice. She went with us the next day to meet the pup. She loved her as well.

While we were in the play room a family walked by. The family’s little boy exclaimed “That’s the doggie I want!” His mom explained that she was probably going home with us.

In a moment of childish weakness we both said to ourselves…”Nooooooo she is ours!” We didn’t want to let her go. So while my husband stayed with the puppy I went to get the money to buy her. Of course we paid way to much for her…but she has been worth every penny!

When our little bundle of corgi love came home with us …we weren’t sure what to name her.

My husband is a gamer geek (I say this affectionately.) Years ago he came across a player online named Cioccolato. He has always like the name…although he didn’t know what it meant. Eventually we figured out that it was Italian for chocolate.

Since I had named most of our other fur-babies…It was his turn. We agreed on the name, but needed a short nickname. Eventually we thought of calling her Cici for short.

Over the years we have come up with many nicknames for her…honey, sweetie, kiddo, and pieces. So now her full name is Cioccolato Pieces. (Chocolate pieces, lol!)

Although, with her coloring I think muffin, or honey would have made more sense.

I love your story.  It is amazing to me how much I love my corgis!!  I can't, (and don't want to), imagine my life without them!!  My little girl is blind in one eye, so the breeder said we could have her for less then the other puppies!  They didn't know that she is priceless!!   All the money in the world would not be a fair trade for her!!
