We picked Ani up from Barbara's place last night at 7ish. Rolled up to the house, and Barbara and her friend (whose name I've forgotten) had Jasmine and the Other J-named puppy in a pen in the front yard with Ani and Waffles. (Waffles is from a litter last year, and staying with Barbara for the weekend.)

Barbara took us through the puppy packet information, and then had Ani pick out two toys from a pile of toys. Ani picked a fuzzy stuffed bone and a weird rubber lobster thing. She rolled around with Barbara on the floor--I thought that we better not rush her out the door....want her to be in a calm and happy feeling when she leaves, and besides, it's nice to let the breeder have these last few moments with the puppy. Just before we left, Barbara ran the stuffed bone over the fur of Ani's littermates, so she would have something to smell and remember them by.

John held Ani in his lap all the way home. We brought the crate, but it's rather largish, and we were worried about her sliding around inside it at first. So she made the journey home on John's lap with him crossing his fingers that she wouldn't wee. Anyway, we safely made it home, with only a handful of half-whimpers and panting to indicate that she was stressed at all.

We duly played with her on the kitchen floor, giving her treats now and then to make her feel happy and secure, and keeping an eye on her, lest she wee. And then near the end of the evening, we tried to feed her but she seemed to have been treated out, and turned her nose up at the food. And when we took her outside, she investigated the dog run, but didn't get around to pooping. Eventually we went back in, arranged her in her crate, covered it with a towel, and went to bed, fully prepared to harden our hearts and wait out the night while she whined herself to sleep. Instead, she entered her crate willingly, curled up, and fell asleep. Woot. Frankly, I'm glad we lucked out with night number one.

We got her to poop this morning (outside, where she was supposed to) but then we forgot that she ate a little bit of the food we set out, and so she pooped once on the carpet too. Still no wee, but she has drunk water....should I be worried?

Currently, she's napping in her crate, while her daddy paints Warhammer Orcs and while I'm writing this journal entry. Since we both woke up at the butt crack of dawn (of our own volition?! HOLY COW) I may shower and nap for an hour or so.
