We are still a long time away from getting our own place but have begun saving for one. We currently live with my mother in law who has two dogs that keep Bailie company so i know ot will be essential to get a buddy for her so she wont be lonely when we move out. I have always planned on getting another corgi to keep Bailie company ( and bc let's face it: corgis are like potato chips, you cant have just one ). However, i know at first that finances will probably ne strained and that getting a new puppy right off the bat will strain them further, not to mention the time needed to start the training process all over again. So I've been pondering on getting a cat to keep her company until we can afford a second dog. Anybody resort to getting a cat to keep the dog company? Is this a good idea?

We have a 4 month old kitten and the dogs absolutely love her. She seems to think she is a dog-she roughs around with them just like they do with each other. Just watch out, because it seems cat poop is a corgi delicacy. I can't keep them out of the litter box to save their lives!

Just going to mention here that if finances are the issue, cats cost money too. While you can usually get one for free or a minimal amount at a shelter, they still need vaccines and spaying/neutering and other healthcare. All the cats we have were 'free' and they have cost us almost as much money as the dogs, if not more.

Try to find a cat that has already lived with dogs. Or a young, confident, outgoing boy. That will make it more likely that the cat will be a friend.

Scout has a cat to keep her company!  They get along great!  Watch my video!

I got Marley (the cat) from a foster home where he was with dogs.  He was an adult cat when I got him.  The lady who was fostering him let me bring Scout so she could help make sure he would work.

Anyway, worked for me because I took all the precautions I possibly could to make sure they would get along.  Hope if you decide on a cat, it goes as smoothly
