Getting things together for a Corgi Pup! :D

So I'm getting things together to get our pup. I want to make sure I have at lest almost All the stuff We will need for her before we get her. Yesterday I got a dog crate for her so when we aren't home she has a safe place to be. Today we are going to the pet store to get some more stuff Like the dog bed that goes in the crate, and her bowls. I have an idea of what collar i want to get her but i want to get her first to make sure it fits :3. I can't wait to get my Fury little friend, its going to be great to add her to our family. :) My son is going to have a blast with her. He loves animals so much & i keep asking him if he wants a puppy & he will point at my wallpaper on my computer ( witch is a corgi puppy ) & he makes the "i want" face. ( His only One so its freaking cute that he already wants a puppy. ) Plus ive been looking to get a Corgi for a long time now. cant wait :)

For cables and electric cords I would not trust bitter apple or tabasco. These things need to be completely out of puppies reach (it's hard to do but necessary). All the areas of the house the boys can get to on their own are puppy proof, that is no exposed cords, throw rugs, fridge magnets, papers and books...you get the idea. You can teach them what not to touch, but just like human kids, it takes awhile and tragedy can strike before they learn. Check my blog post about cord chewing outside...thankfully no power was going to the cord when they chewed it or one or both would be dead. Congrats on your new puppy, get lots of pics as they grow so fast.

Bitter apple or tabasco sauce work very well....although the bitter apple didn't last too long for us..abby would start chewing the carpet after a while. The tabasco worked wonders, though

Ooo Bitter apple spray you say, I was worried about that, cause right where her crate is some cables from the computer.. Not saying she WILL eat them but thats nice to know there is a product i can get to make sure she doesn't hurt herself.. OR my fiancee's things LOL

It helps a lot to buy some Bitter Apple spray. Jasper used to want to chew on table legs, the carpet, our bed, etc., but after spraying the Bitter Apple it helped a lot with deterring him from chewing! : )

To add to Erins soda bottle, if you put some popcorn kernels in it they will go ballistic for them. At least half the toys we bought loki initially he didn't use. They seem to have crazy preferences and whatnot. I would recommend something like a small beach ball or soccer ball, mine loves to herd it around noisily.

You sound exactly like me!! We are about to bring our first Corgi pup home next week, and we've been asking ourselves, "What are we forgetting"... We are just about ready, and I can't wait to get our little guy home.

I know how you feel Melanie. We just picked up Faye last week, and I went through a crazy nesting period. Be careful about getting impulse buys at the pet store, you'll wind up spending a lot more money than you need to. I went to petco and made a list of all the things I wanted to buy and how much they cost, then I went home and went through the list online (wound up petco.com was selling the same stuff for cheaper online). I called and talked to a customer service rep and he wound up not charging me for shipping because I had ordered so much all at once. I think I saved over $100 dollars by being smart about it. Also my puppy is sort of uninterested in the toys I spent money on and would much rather play with an empty soda bottle or a rag that we tied in a knot. It just goes to show that you don't know what they will want before you pick them up, so just buy one or two toys at first and wait to see what kind of things catch her interest.

Good luck with the new puppy!

Awww....I remember the anticipation!! When we got Yogi last year, I had bought everything he could ever need..the drive was about 5 hours, and my heart was racing the whole time. I didn't even want to stop for lunch! When we got abby, we knew that we shouldn't spend so much yet. Don't buy an expensive collar yet until she's grown more. Don't buy expensive blankets or bed, because she will ruin it while teething, and there will be pee and poop stains all over. It's safe to say, just get cheap stuff first, or unused stuff from your closet..until she's a little bit more grown. Maybe you could ask for a toy from the breeder that she plays with that smells like her mom...it takes the anxiety away. Yogi's toy that smells like his mom, was the only toy that is still alive now...everything else we bought him were destroyed and inside out...they're silly, but i can never be mad at them.
