We took Spencer herding yesterday. He had an instinct test and he passed with flying colors. It was amazing to see him take to herding so easily. Instantly he was moving the herd, bringing stray sheep back, bringing the sheep to us, he had so much fun.

The instinct test is simple, you, your dog and the tranier go into the coral together with the dog on a leash. You walk with the dog until he sees the sheep. At that point you let him off leash and see what happens. The trainer is there to guide the dog if he needs it. Sometimes if your dog takes longer to connect with his instincts they will bring in a more experienced dog to get the sheep moving a bit then call him off.

I definitely suggest trying it out at least once see how your corgi takes to it. It's so amazing to see that instinct kick in.

How do they do a herding test? This really interests me.

I highly suggest taking your Corgi herding it's super cute and they love it! If you are in So. Cal look up Drummond Ranch.

That is great....I am going to have to find a local place that tests herding. I think Chepstow would have so much fun and enjoy the work. He just turned 4, hope that isn't to old.

That's so cool! I wish we had something like that close to where I live!! Chesney is so full of energy I think she would do great in either herding or agility. Keep up the good work Spencer!!
