sigh! I cringe when I hear people talk about hitting their dogs. Okay, dog 101: aggression breeds aggression. He may cower at first, but will eventually lash out at you because hitting a dog is a threat and they will respond.

I wish I could spend some time with you and see the aggression first hand. You mention he's 2.5 years. Is he neutered? And has anything changed in his world? Think hard.

Then ask your vet for a referral to a local animal behaviorist. Do your homework. Be sure that person is qualified and certified to handle your aggression issue. And you're welcome to write me off-forum and I'll do my best to help you.

Hmmm.... if he really tried to bite you, and didn't just bare his teeth I would seek some professional advice. I know it's kind of comforting to get lot's of different opinions and advice, but there could be something more involved here. I definitely don't think hitting of any kind is the answer. Hope you're able to get help and work through this.

You might try "dominating" him. It is a training technique that was shown to me by the breeder of my first Corgi. When your Corgi is acting up, simply roll him over on his back and hold him down with one hand between his front legs. When he submits, let him up as fast as possible. If you watch dogs playing in a group. This is the same way they show domance to each other. So it's something that they respond to very quickly. You usually don't have to hold them down very long. I have used this on all three of my Corgis at different times in their lives, and it really works. It just reminds them that, that kind of behavior is not excepable. Hope this helps. Cindi

I would not hit him any other place than a spanking on his bottom. Use stern words when he does something bad. Say NO with a serious tone. Then when he does something good, like doesnt get agressive than award him. :) hope that helps!

I'd be very careful about hitting a dog. Get professional advice before you go that route.
Whatever is going on is likely too subtle to diagnose over the net.
If this is something new, there's probably a cause and you might be able to discern it.
I'd start by making careful, detailed observations about these incidents, trying to find commonalities.

If he were my dog, I would give him a hard thump on the nose and say no, when he does the growling or biting (or pretty much anything that you don't want him to do). If that doesn't work, then spank him on the hind quarters. That worked for my Dewey. You could give it a try.You could try putting a choke chain on his neck and pull it tight when he does something wrong. The vet recommended the chain. Hope something works. My Corgi wasn't very aggressive though. You could also take him to dog obedience school.
