Today was the first day Tod spent most of the time off the leash inside the house. He was exploring more of the house, while I was following him being ready to correct any unwanted behavior. If the stop by any vertical object was too long I'd get his attention and redirect him. Tod knows his new name now and responds to 'come' command every time. Liver treats help a great deal with reinforcing positive actions.

He's gotten a little better with walking without pulling today. I took him out for a 25 min walk 3 times. Each time he had to deal with new challenges: crazy yapping and snarling shelties behind a wire fence, extremely loud lawn mower, a visitor at the door, a couple of teens we met on our way, and a dog.

We saw his first FRAPping today when my hubby came home. What a sight! On the way down the stairs he slid on the hardwood floor and came to a more or less gentle stop by the front door:)

Got a question. I tried teaching Tod the 'down' command (right after he sat), but he just won't put his belly on the floor. Hardwood, carpet, concrete....doesn't matter. His elbows just won't bend. But that's a minor thing. We'll work on that. On the positive side, he knows 'stay' now....and won't cross the threshold unless I go over first and then release him with an OK.

We are also working on Tod not chasing my little 8 year-old chihuahua. He definitely wants to herd her. She just runs to me for cover. No aggression on her part, neither on his. He just wants to sniff her and play, but to Lady he's invading her personal space. So what I did is spent some time with both of them in the same room: Lady on my lap on the bed and Tod resting by the side of the bed. I feel that Tod needs to get used to her like to a piece of furniture.

Tod had an eventful day and is sleeping like an angel now. He did extremely well. Again:) I am proud of him. I am really trying not to spoil him:)))))))

Oh, I took his stats:

Age; 10 months old
Weight: 25 lbs
Height: 12 inches (from ground to highest point on withers)
Length: 17 inches (distance from the withers to the base of the tail)

p.s. Neutering is in 4 days

Thanx Geri&Sidney!
@Cindi: Ha-ha! I realize now I need to take into account corgi's body structure when training him.

Natalia, you answered your own question. lol One of the more challenging commands when teaching "lie down" to a corgi is the leg position. They tend to sit with their legs stretched out forward and lie down with them stretched out backward! Be patient. Tod will learn. You might try, when slowing bringing the treat to the ground, pulling it ever so slightly forward. It will encourage Tod to lean into the treat and put his legs out behind him. He'll catch on.

Tod is doing great! I'm really happy for you all. It's really hard NOT to spoil them, isn't it?
