My puppy's not eating and i don't know what else to do!!

It's been going on for a couple weeks. I feed Stanley Purina Puppy Chow. I called the vet and they said try wet food, if that doesnt work, use a seringe, and if that does work, call them back. I mixed wet food and dry and he loved it! now, i don't know what it is. he eats, or he doesnt eat. i tried dry food with a little water. my dad's tried dry food with cheerios..

i don't get it. does he need to watch me make it for him to eat it? or is it just a puppy thing?

HELP!

Rory is a picky eater also. She is not always interested in her kibble. If I pretend I am interested in it or if one of the cats walks by her bowl she suddenly wants it all to herself. The other week we changed the meat in her food from chicken to lamb by mistake, I have not researched lamb, I hope it is ok to feed her that she seems to have a larger interest in it. Good luck!

My dog is almost a year, and he's still a picky butt when it comes to eating, I tried all the above mentioned bribery and what ended up working was just putting the food down for 10 minutes then taking it away. I did this twice a day and he starved himself for about a day and a half before he realised "oh crap, I better eat that". He's still picky, but at least I'm not busy working to bribe him to eat.

Finn is 4 1/2 months old and he can be picky as well. Up until he was about 10 weeks old he ate all of his food as soon as we gave it to him but now we have to convince him it's worth eaing. :) Days when he is really ignoring his food we mix in cottage cheese and he'll eat it right away. Since it is for a puppy, you don't want to use nonfat. Nonfat is better for an adult dog but puppies can benefit from the fat in the cottage cheese. Mix in just enough to coat the dry food and I'm sure he'll eat it. The added calcium is good for a growing puppy anyway. Hope this helps!

When I have a picky eater I have tried adding baby food (from the jar) and even cottage cheese. My dogs love cottage cheese. We have cooked liver and sometimes chicken.

I also have one that likes us to stay with her when she eats.

When my puppy was sick a while ago, the vet said to add some chicken soup to his dry dog food and that worked. I poured just a bit of chicken soup (swanson's)- the clear broth kind. I warmed it just a bit after I put it in the fridge since I used a little bit at a time. When his appetite got better, I stopped adding the chicken soup. Hope your puppy gets his appetite back...

puppies can be very irregular when they eat. They won't starve themselves. I think the first thing to do is to feed a better quality food. That way when he does eat he is getting the nutrition he needs. www.dogfoodanalysis.com is a great resources. Purina Puppy Chow is pretty low on the lis and contains a number of ingredients that Stanley may be allergic to.. Brodie is a year and I still have to Dr. his food so that he eats on a regular basis. I feed a high quality food (no grain), but at times i need to warm up some low sodium chicken broth to make his food more immediately appealing. Sometimes he just wants me to be in the room when he eats. We have six dogs that we feed all at once. Each has their spot. Brodie is a slow eater so we put him in the bathroom and shut the door so the others don't steal his food. Often I sit with him and thats all he wants, but sometimes it just take a little something to make him eat. Low fat or non-fat cottage cheese is good as well. Whatever works. Keep trying. He will eat when he is hungry.Brodie goes through spurts. Sometimes he eats ravenously and other times he doesn't seem interested. It hink that is fairly typical. Good luck Gina. Stanely looks adoreable!
