I went to a butcher shop today and asked for beef knuckle bones.

Man: "Marrow bones?"
Me: "No, beef knuckle bones."
Man: "Marrow bones ARE knuckle bones"
Me: "Oh, okay... I'll take them then."

He told me they were in the freezer so I headed over to the freezer and saw two different kinds of bagged bones. There was one type of bone, that was behind the "marrow bones" sign, was about foot long; and the one behind the "beef bones" sign were cut into 3 inch pieces. I took one of each out and asked which one the marrow bones were. He said "They're both marrow bones. One's whole and the other's cut."

The marrow bones were $2.09/lb. and the beef bones were $1.69/lb. I grabbed a bag of the "cut" bones and got charged the marrow bone price. (?!)

But the thing I wonder is, I thought knuckle bones were knobby looking?

I feel like I got cheated, but didn't want to argue since it was closing time and I am not too familiar with bones.

I took the bones home home, boiled it, laid out a towel, and then gave them to Ein and Brian. So far, they're licking out the marrow, no chewing.

--------------------------------------------------------

For some reason, Ein doesn't chew his bone in front of Brian. Brian and Ein are equally dominant, so I don't know if it's a dominance issue? Once I put Brian in the other room, Ein immediately went to go enjoy his bone.

Here is Ein and Brian, are enjoying their "knuckle" bones.

I buy smoked bones like this from a buthcher shop in Portland I do a little extra driving for these because of the smoking it kills the germs if there are any...I also buy size appropreate ones because I found if I gave big ones they tend to get loose stools.

Nope, neither Ein or Brian hid their bones; they stayed in the towel area. Ein licked on the bone for a bit then walked away. (!) I beckoned Ein over a few times to continue chewing/licking his bone but he insisted on walking away. Then I put Brian in his play pen, closed the door (so he wouldn't get jealous), and Ein happily walked over to his bone and licked/chewed on his bone for a good while until Brian came back again. And Brian doesn't do anything to drive Ein away, except by being in Ein's presence!

As for the boiling, I did it to disinfect. I followed John's advice :) : http://www.mycorgi.com/forum/topics/feeding-raw-bonesfood

We never cook ours. We just give them to them raw. They love them. the marrow will also be more healthy for them if it isn't cooked from what I understand. I have actually never heard of boiling them first... If you cook them, they are more likely to break apart into shards. They will love them either way I bet. Does Ein kind of try to keep Brian from seeing his bone even though he isn't chewing on it? Our dogs trade back and forth with them kind of... Well, Samson wants all the treats/bones to himself and then another one will come along and take it back or whatnot... It's kind of cute. They do not fight over them... Just go pick them up when the other isn't looking...
