Our Wylie has a pretty significant overbite or malocclusion as the dentist would say, anyone else out there with the same issue?

Unfortunately, our guy's OB is so significant there is damage being done to his upper palate by his deciduous canines!  I am taking him to the hospital tomorrow morning to have them extracted, then once his permanent teeth are in we have two possible options on dealing with them.  Neither is pleasant or inexpensive but we will do whatever we must to keep our boy happy and healthy.

Glad to hear his surgery went well, poor pup. Keep us posted.

Wylie came through the surgery exceptionally well.  He was groggy and wobbly last night and we had to give pain meds at 9 pm but today he is much, much more like himself.  His overbite has been measured now, they had to do it under anesthesia, and it is a whopping 11/16's of inch(17mm).  We'll need to wait until his adult canines come in to decide what the next procedure will be.  Wylie already seems more comfortable chewing and playing though trying to keep him away from sticks and acorns is a real adverture, lol!!!

Teresa, thank you, I am sure he will recover quickly.  Just wanted you to know, we were well aware of the overbite and the possibilites when we chose him from the breeder.  It has turned into more than the breeder thought it would and more than we thought but we did not go into this unaware.

Kymii, I do agree with you, I will try to get photos of Wylie's overbite but Ziggy's looks almost as significant.  Our vet tends to be non-interventional with many things and on our first visit suggested we get this evaluated.  We didn't even know until today that the lower canines had made divots in his upper palate.  They are very evident and those could eventually become punctures.  We are fortunate to be very near one of the best vet hospitals in the country, University of Pennsylvania.   Wylie's overbite is just over 1 cm.

I am so sorry you and Wylie have to go through this.  But when it is all over I think you will be glad you did it.  Good luck to Wylie and I hope he is better soon.

This is Ziggy's overbite.. It is pretty large..... In my opinion it looks a bit bigger in real life than in these pictures, but he wasn't being all too happy about me having the camera out and kept wiggling around lol. When we last went to the vet, she said that his overbite isn't really a cause for concern.. But I notice that it seems to be a bit more of a hassle for him to chew his food, and the toy ball he has is too big for his mouth because of the shape.... So I'm unsure how correct his vet was on that matter.
