Hello,

I'm new to this site, and have a corgi about to be 6 months old and is about to be altered. What are some things that I should be aware of after the surgery? Are there any "pain pills" for puppies after surgery? I want to make sure I know what to expect with my little guy. Chopper loves the vet, but not sure how he'll do after the surgery. Thank you for all your help!

Chopper turned out great!! He was "drunk" according to the vet, but he was right back to be being his good ol' puppy-self on Sunday(he had surgery on Friday so it's been a week today). The incision is looking good and I've had an ok time getting him to take his antibiotic. Thank you to everyone for your help!!!

When Nala was spayed she perfectly followed the vet's instructions for a day and half perhaps. After that, she decided that everything was ok, and wanted to play, go up and down the stairs, jump to the couch, etc. Thank fully I had the day off to keep a close watch on her. The vet didn't stitch her, but used something like "crazy glue". What I ended up doing was "enclosing" her in a certain area so she didn't wander around too much.

The vet will give you some pain meds that last a couple of days, and some antibiotics. With the meds Nala was always good. Just be patient, have an area designed for Chopper. Follow the vet's instructions, and Chopper will be good as new in a couple of days too.

That does help! Thank you! The vet didn't say anything about pain pills, just that he'll be given an oral antibiotic that should be given twice a day. Does the antibiotic have pain medication with it? Sorry for the elementary questions, but Chopper is my first corgi and first dog.

Thank you!

they give you pain medication for after, usually you can choose between pills and liquid... you will probably want to get a cone to go around his head in case he licks or tries to chew the area. You can usually return them to the vet if you didnt need it. It would also be handy in the future if anything happens where he isnt supposed to chew/lick... so you don't have to get it again. Most dogs want to get up and do everything they usually do, but they need to be kept somewhere they can not do a lot of jumping or running for a couple to few days after to make sure nothing gets openied back up and that the stiches stay untill they are supposed to fall/be taken out. You can take him on walks etc, just make sure he isnt over doing it... Hope this helps.
