So Oppy is almost 12 weeks now and it seems like he hasn't made any progress with the potty training. He never messes in his crate, and he has not pooped in the house yet, but he keeps peeing all over the place. We take him outside when he starts sniffing around and he'll pee once or twice while we're out. When he goes outside he gets a piece of treat and a "good boy". 10-15 minutes after coming inside, he'll pee on the carpet. Most of the time we don't catch him because it's hard to tell when he's going, but we give him a firm "NO, bad boy" when we do catch him. I am beginning to think we're doing something wrong. Any tips or suggestions?

Well Optimus seems to have his good days and bad days. He didn't make any messes this morning before I went to work, so we're off to a good start (of course, I did take him out 4 times over 1.5 hours). It's always a work in progress, and it's hard to see progress sometimes. I think he might be starting to understand that peeing inside isn't a good thing (which is nice since we've gone through 4.5 cans of Spot Shot carpet cleaner already).

Talula isn't doing much better... This morning she peed down my leg as I was carrying her to go outside. She's on and off about peeing in her crate-- and we take her out every hour and a half, say the words "Do your business", tell her she's a good girl when she pees or poops outside and take her to the same places! It's an ongoing process-- one step forward, two steps back.

ein wasn't housebroken when we first got him at 4 months old. so it's just one of those things that practice makes perfect. make sure you take them to the SAME spot every time and give them a command EX. "Do your business." we did this for ein and he picked it up so quickly! we really try and take him out about every two hours and limit his water intake in the evenings (before bed). pups will have accidents, heck, adult dogs have accidents at times as well, so it'll just take some time and effort :) good luck!!!

Friends of mine that have had this problem when leaving water down for the pup all day. Seems that if they drink they will pee soon after - so giving them water a few times a day and planning a potty break afterwards has worked for them. I am certainly not the expert as I don't even have my pup yet but just a suggestion I have picked up along the way. Good luck! :)

It's a hard time, you gotta watch them leik, constantly x_x. Didi spent most of her time being watched, or in the crate, and until like 9 months, she wasn't reliably potty trained. Keep at it. :o

I did post a blog on my page about housebreaking. I think you will find it useful.

Same thing with the little S. He still will have the occasional accident if we're neglectful. Take him out every two hours without fail. Sooner or later he'll get the hint.
