We have had Regi for just shy of 9 weeks now. He is our world!

Every morning I get up at 6 and we go for a brisk walk. Then we play with his giant goose stuffed toy, or I throw the ball around a little bit for him. While I'm getting ready for work, he likes to lay down on the bathroom floor-I think he likes the cool tile. Just before I leave, I tuck him into bed with my husband, and he has a nap.

My husband gets up with him around 10 and they go for a long walk, followed by breakfast. Then Regi gets to play or nap while his dad plays computer or does chores. Regi spends about an hour a day in his crate (plus time he's in "time out") waiting for me to get home from work around 5. We take yet another walk, then the little cutie gets fed and I make my dinner. Bedtime is around 10, which Regi always remembers if I forget. He has a habit of grabbing his favorite toy then whining at the foot of the bed until I put him up there for sleep time.

He has 3 favorite spots to nap: Under our coffee table, behind our couch, and recently he likes to wedge his whole body behind our hamper in the bathroom. His favorite snack tends to be peanut butter. His favorite toy is his stuffed goose, his stinky skunk, and the stuffed fox rope toy his aunt Katie bought him. He doesn't really pay attention to our cockatiel Roxanne unless we force them together. though his did pull down her cage one time on accident (it was a phase where he liked pulling down blankets, and he yanked hers a little too hard! She's fine, by the way.) He loves ice cubes and anything else frozen.

The good:

Eats well, sleeps well (most of the time), plays nice, loves his toys, isn't overly destructive, very very social with other dogs and people. He's a big snuggler at night when we're in bed, though he doesn't really care to be held very much.

.

The "bad":

Teething is getting worse; we are trying to teach him boundaries, but sometimes he has to take a cool-off in the crate. Potty training has been fine, though he does have 1-3 accidents a day on the carpet. He isn't too destructive but you really have to watch papers around him--he goes nuts! He's very headstrong and doesn't like to follow when we walk. Often times he wants to lead, and lead me into the worst spots. This is probably my biggest "complaint" which I know is something we can correct through training.

All in all, we could not be happier with our pup. Husband and I both agreed that Regi was what was missing from our life. We feel truly blessed to have such a sweet, fun, silly, and loyal companion to come home to.

Hi Ziggy and Kimberly, thanks for your concern but I haven't noticed any negative issues with putting Regi in the crate for a little cool off when he's too bitey or pees/goes bathroom in the house. He gets led in, and usually even gets a treat or a toy. Sometimes when HE gets overwhelmed (too many people over, husband is vacuuming  he walks in our bedroom and puts himself in the crate so I think it's definitely a "safe" place for him. All in all he spends less than 10 minutes in there--just enough time to forget what he was doing, and give me some time to cool off myself. Puppies can be frustrating sometimes! Thanks again!

Wow, everything sounds way awesome! So happy for you guys :) I would like to note that crates aren't supposed to be used for time outs-they're supposed to be a "happy place", and putting them there when something is bad can confuse them to make them think that it's a punishment of sorts... At least that seems to be the popular belief, of course it's really up to you :)

He is sooo beyond precious.. I love his face!

Hey Cathie! You're going to love your puppy! Corgis are seriously the best, smartest breed of dog and we feel happier every day with our decision.

Regi sleeps in our bed every night. The only nights he goes in the crate is if he's being too frisky and won't settle down, or if he hasn't gone #2 in a few hours. Initially he was in the crate (it's next to our bed) every night, but he cried so much we let him start sleeping with us. Plus, he'd already been taking naps with me in the afternoon and I'd never had an issue with him going to the bathroom in bed, so we knew we could trust him. Ultimately the decision is yours; I know a lot of people don't like sharing their bed with another animal, but for us it's just a nice way to bond. Plus my husband works until 3:00a.m. so I don't feel as lonely :D Congrats and good luck!

This is so helpful! We're getting our puppy next month and I love reading details of how other people are handling those first few weeks with their new family member.

I was wondering about having the puppy sleep in our bed. I worry about him falling off the edge during the night! Do you keep Regi in his crate next to your bed at night, or does he sleep on your bed?
