So it's been a while since I've been on here. But I wanted to inform everyone that Domo has passed away. It breaks my heart to hear the news. I just came back from deployment and I was just waiting to pick him up and have him run into my arms. Now I won't get the chance to do so. I just wish I could have seen him just one more time.

I'm just curious if any of you have lost a corgi and how long did it take you to get another dog, if you did so.

Im so sorry for your loss and that you didn't have a chance to say your final goodbyes :(  They are so part of our families, grieving is different for everyone. We lost our cardi May 2014. Each day gets a little easier but you never forget them, the memories are with you forever.  There is no right or wrong way to grieve or a set amount of time to grieve.  I found talking about the memories with others helped the most.  We did not get another pup but we also have a pembroke, who has helped tremendously. As much as we would have liked to add another one we just knew we could not. :(   Its up to you how long you wait, you will know when the time is right.  Thinking of you in this very diffucult time.

Beth, Laura, and Tommy...thank you for the condolences. I know it will be hard times not having him around the place.

Beth - I understand where you are coming from about different situations. I just feel like if I got another corgi that they wouldnt amount to Domo, but I know he would want me to be happy. Thanks for the advice.

Each person is different.  Some need time to heal and others cannot bear to be without a little furry friend in their lives.  If you are comfortable with the thought of adding a new Corgi to your life, you should go for it.  Your little Domo would understand.  I have always felt that it is a testament to how much a person loves the little pet they lost when they go out and get another.  Other people need time to handle the loss before getting another.  Do what feels best for you.  There are a lot of dogs, even Corgi's out there either rescues or through breeders looking for someone to love them.  If you are looking to purchase a new Corgi and need a breeder, contact me and I can recommend someone to you.  So incredibly sorry to hear about Domo, but hope you find another furry companion to love.

Oh, I am so very sorry.   How sad you couldn't say your final goodbyes.

I haven't lost a Corgi yet (though I know the day is coming soon).   However, I lost a very loved cat a few years back.  I wasn't sure I'd ever get another, I missed her so much.   And then just about 3 months after she was gone, I was in PetSmart looking at the rescue cats and fell in love with an all-white kitten and brought her home.

On the other hand, our neighbors lost their Golden Retriever a couple years ago and her death was such a slow and painful decline over such a long time that they couldn't handle the thought of another dog.  She had a brain tumor and declined over the matter of more than a year.  I think the caretaking was overwhelming.

I am dealing with a dog in slow decline now and I'm not sure I could handle another puppy any time soon after we lose her.  But it won't be from the loss, it will be from the emotional exhaustion of prolonged care-taking.

So every situation is different.  If your house feels empty without a dog, don't feel like you are damaging your special bond with Domo if you get a new one.

Do what feels right for you.  Hugs.
