I took Charlie to petsmart to get the furminator wash and asked them to trim around his poop shoot (I think that's what everyone called it here lol) and I stressed that I only wanted that part trimmed. When I went to pick him up the guy trimmed way to much. It looks likes a mini lawn mower went through his fluff. I am only so upset because the last time i took him, they did a nice job and didn't get rid of so much. This time it's a lot and I'm scared that it won't grow back! I just hope he won't get patchy and he will get fluffy again. My parents say its not that bad and I guess it's not. It's just the initial shock of seeing his butt like that. Oh well...What do you guys think? You think it will grow back again? and if it does, how long will it take?

I am happy that he is clean and they washed him very well. Just shocked I guess. I also wanted to take his back to trim the rest so it won't look as odd but I didn't want to risk them making it worse. Should have I been mean and told him he did bad. I was so excited to see Charlie that I didn't even pay attention until I saw him walking in front of me. Also he seemed like he was trying, I guess I will have to point out what I want shaved next time.

We get our Golden Retriever mix shaved every summer and she has a fringe (butt curtains) that is long and dense kinda like Ace's just more flowy cuz the golden in her.. and mom says it takes 2-3 months for it to grow backa nd she looks completely normal once it grows back...

not sure about getting Ace shaved im scared he would look funny and Oregon summers arent that horrible especially since i have a water loving Corgi lol

but im sure it will grow back just fine =) Buffy always looks normal come August/September when her fur grows back in full~ (get her shaved usually late June/early July)

Oh wow! Thanks guys. This morning when I looked at him, it's not as bad as what I thought. At least when he does his business it won't get everywhere!!!

Bella got a great trim at Petsmart. I keep track of the names of the great trimmers and only take her to that person.

[to the tune of Kookaburra] Dingleberries hang off the corgi's poop shoot....

So sorry, but this thread cracks me up...and I have room to laugh because I have a fluffy with dingleberry issues. :) (Which, by the way, we try to curtail by thinning the fluff with shears.)

I took my newfoundland there one time to have him thinned out for summer, and they shaved him down everywhere except his tail and head.  He looked awful!!  Anyway, the hair will grow back ok!  I get the thinning shears for Seanna's butt hair--then I can get it not as poofy,  get the dingleberries out without totally screwing her all up!

I don't have any advice, I have not had any grooming done. It is just nice to read poop shoot, and dingle berries on a Monday morning. LOL

I do have a great groomer that does magic with Twinkie but I have to trim her heinie myself all the time.  I just got some good scissors (Walmart) from the aisle that has electric razors and other grooming aids.  I think they were around 7 or 8 dollars.  I just hand trim her whole bottom so its not so noticeable that its tight around the "poop shoot".  I already have to keep a box of (unscented) baby wipes handy at all times for poopy butt, this just means I don't have to do it as much.  Maybe you'll get really good at it.  Good luck!

An anchor mustache? Oh, my, I don't think I want to look that close up.

I have a personal, unsubstantiated bias against Pet Smart, or other big chains. I suspect the experience of the staff, the supervision, the training, etc., etc. Since I've never used their services, my evidence is only anecdotal.

On the other hand, my private groomer has been with us for almost 20 years. She has  kept records about and respected our specifications, such as don't cut the whiskers, trim between the pads to avoid ice ball, etc. We always have the salon owner or one of her staff who are always under her supervision.

thanks guys so much!!! I can put my stress to rest now! lol it kind of looks like one of those anchor mustaches if you look close up!

Other than that, his shedding had been soooooooooooooo much better!

Comment by Heather and Ella on March 20, 2011 at 9:32pm
A few weeks ago Ella went to the groomers to get a de-shed(lots of brushing and special shampoo). While there they asked if we wanted her "butt trimmed up".  We said sure, and it looks great.  They trimmed it kinda flush in the back and then trimmed out her "tail/nub".  It's already growing back.  So I'm sure it won't take long for Charlie's to grow back. If she'll let me, I'll try and take a picture.
