Sooo, we're out taking our evening walk. It's a pleasant night and the rain is just a memory. One of our neighbors is getting out of his truck and his wife comes out of the house through the garage, letting their two boxers come out with her. They come straight out to us, but the man right away begins calling them back. The wife says "It's ok, they're friendl..." Bam! One of the boxers had rolled Sidney onto his back and was attacking his underbelly! I hate it when I panic and start yelling...all I remember was screaming "get your dog off of him, get your dog off of him!". It seemed like forever before the guy came up and grabbed the boxer, while I was trying to pull Sidney away by the leash. I don't know WHAT I should have done in a circumstance like that. Grab for the Boxer? Grab for Sidney?
Guy takes his dog back and the woman is extremely apologetic. One of those "she's never done anything like that before" apologies. She asks me several times if Sidney is ok. He seems none the worse for wear, happily. He got up, shook himself off and proceeded to woof at the boxer, as if to give her a piece of his mind. "You want a piece of me...huh? Want a piece of me?" It wasn't a hostile bark, more questioning. Then he kicked dirt in her direction. We continued on our walk and he does just fine. As we passed by the house again I watched him to see if he was nervous about it, but he was fine. It took ME a while to calm down, though! I was not really too mad at the family, just scared for my little dog. I hope they will think twice before letting them out into the front yard, though!
Sidney was sporting his brand new Christmas bandana. I think the boxer was jealous.
