Have any of you ever heard of a corgi having the birth defect of a small liver?

Found out today Carlys is 1/3 the size of a normal corgi. I saw it its tiny..

We were concerned about her vomiting for the last several days so i took her to the vet , thank God no blockage but the x-rays showed us the liver issue!

She is resting now, except for the trembling.. hopfully whatever has her stomach upset, is almost over ..all the blood work was normal..

She'll be 2yrs in Jan. Vet said the liver needs to be watched and she'll have to be on low protein food.

If any one else has any input please advise...

Thats what the vet told me yesterday, she can function fine with a small liver and your right we would have never known has we not done x-rays... I did call the vet this morning to double ck the liver enzymes of her liver and he hasn't called me back yet. They probably think im over reacting , but like i told her  i was researching on the web and some of the stuff i read wasnt good ...didnt sleep well last night thinking about it.. Im a little concerned that she still hasnt eaten  today but it may be the meds he has put her on , antibiotic and one other for vomiting. Shes probably not hungry.

My corgi mix Bruce is on a low protein diet because his kidneys were failing. He gets Royal Canin renal formula, but I also make him a homemade food that is low protein that he loves. At least a low-protein diet is manageable, and Bruce's health has improved while on it. I am sorry that Carly is going through these issues though.

I've never heard of this either. Seems like if she is 2 years old and hasn't had any issues, then it probably won't be affecting her? I'd rather see a small liver than an enlarged liver that's for sure. If all the blood work came back normal and she has been healthy up until this point, I'd say just keep doing what you have been doing, after all you would have never known that this was an issue if you hadn't done the x-rays since she has otherwise been healthy right? Maybe she was just born this way and her body has learned to cope, just like animals with one kidney do just fine, you can remove something like 1/3 or 2/3 of the liver and it will still function somewhat normally, so as long as all the important stuff is there (which she wouldn't have normal blood work if it wasn't) I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

I have not heard of this before.  Hope Carly is feeling better soon. Did your vet say what is causing the small liver.  I just did a quick google search and sounds like there are different reasons for this.

I've never heard of such a thing.  Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom for you.  I wonder if it's something that will grow by itself later as she gets bigger?  I know the liver can regenerate itself....keep us updated.
