First of all, I am lovin' this site. I had no idea! I should've been here ages ago, but I have been between corgis. This MyCorgi thing rocks! Who's the genius behind it? Kudos, you!

Anyhoo, while I'm passing the time until our puppy is ready to come home, I thought I would pen my corgi history. It all started in 1968. I think. I'm not sure, because I wasn't cognizant at the time.

We lived in Social Circle, Georgia, and my parents were looking for a dog. Our last dog Patches (a shepherd mix) had just bitten a neighbor and had been "sent to the country."

My oldest sister Martha has cerebral palsy and her balance has always been a bit wobbly, so my parents were in search of a smaller dog that couldn't knock her over.

Fortunately, some friends of the family were breeding corgis for the show ring, and they had an older puppy whose ears didn't stand up. They gave her to us -- and that was Daisy. I always remember her as red & white, but the photos show her to be closer to sable. Isn't it funny how time colors your memory?

It wasn't any time at all before Daisy was the darling of the family. She was smart and engaging, and she was gentle with us kids. It was the sixties and we were Southerners, so of course Daisy lived outside. And of course some cat had kittens under our house. One of the best stories about Daisy was when she was trying to herd those kittens. It would be going really well, and then she would get the kittens close to a tree. Herd, herd, herd, and then skitter-skitter-skitter, kittens climbed up the tree and Daisy spun in circles under the trunk, barking and worrying about the herd.

That darlin' puppy lasted long enough to get us addicted to corgis, but she died very young. She was at the breeder's house when she died, so they gave us our second corgi. That'll be Part 2. Right now, I have to get back to puppy-proofing the house. How did so many wires and electrical things accumulate in corgi range over the last 11 years? I'm going to be exhausted by the time the puppy gets here!

Your story is so heart warming. Can't wait to hear Part II. The guy to the left is Tucker (a rescue) and my fifth corgi. Corgis are like potato chips you can't just have one. Sam & Silvia are the magic makers of this site. I've met them at the Florida Corgi Picnic... great people! Good Luck with your new acquisition.

I love hearing other peoples stories about their dogs. This happens to be my favorite site also, my husband used to complain I spent too much time on myspace talking to my friends and family. Now I just spend all day on here talking to corgi people. LOL

Hello Bay!
Sam and Silvia are the geniuses behind this site, and I am soooo glad they made mycorgi! It's my favorite website.

You may be exhausted when the puppy arrives but it will be so worth it, won't it? Congratulations!
