I was wondering if anyone's corgi has this problem? Bella hasn't been offically diagnosed yet because the test is expensive and they have to send it off but I have had her tested for just about everything else and that seems to be the last resort. She was having a problem with it around Thanksgiving but the vet seemed to get it under control for now. She still has occational bleeding but it subsides with in a day. I've heard the disease is more common in corgis. Our 6 month old corgi, Clark, also has occational bleeding as well.

Algy has ITP (Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia) which is a platelette disorder also, although not with clotting but with destruction. It took them a while to find it, and then it took a while for him to respond to the therapy. Where is she bleeding? Algy had bleeding gums and brusies on his tummy, and his white blood count was really high.
I hope everything turns out for Bella AND Clark!!!

Upon further research.... Type 1 vWB (which is the type to affect Corgis) is not actually a straight recessive but a gene with "incomplete dominance". Carrier dogs have a reduced vWB factor but should not be bleeders; in other words, the gene does impact them but not to the point of being symptomatic.

Good luck again with your dogs.

Did you get your Corgis from a breeder? vWB is a straight recessive and easily tested for, and reputable breeders test their stock. A carrier would only be bred to a clear, and hence have no vWB pups.

My understanding is the form that affects Corgis is generally relatively mild (there are several types). However, there are other things besides vWB that can cause bleeding disorders in dogs.

I am sorry your Bella is having this problem and hope you have your answers soon!
