I just got done walking Billy and he didn't pick up a single thing off the sidewalk! Not even a leaf! :D I think I getting some where with him. I really think my boyfriend lets him get away with anything when they walk.
I had my sister walking her boyfriend's dog so we were walking really fast. He's a lab that likes to jog with them. Billy only went in front of me once at the beginning of the walk, keeping me from going forward. I think it was him getting too excited, but after I stopped and ignored him, refusing to walk, he sat down, I said "good boy" gave him a treat and started walking. Every time he he would get distracted I would stop and he would go to my side and sit :D that made me really happy. Then we would walk again. It was a great walk after about 4 corrections to pay attention to me. Smooth all the way home. I'm happy! And now he's passed out on the tile :D

Thanks for the comments. I like the idea of writing down the goals! Thanks Again.

Sounds like you're doing great! It's imperative that you and boyfriend are consistent with Billy. Have you added a "leave it" command? It's really helpful if your pup starts going for things that he shouldn't have. Good job! Pats for Billy.

If there is more than one person walking/training the dog, you really have to make sure everybody is on the same page and treating the dog very consistently. If the rules are different with different people, that's asking a lot of the dog. Confusion. You and your BF walk the dog together and make sure you're both doing things exactly the same way.
I made this mistake (like, my wife wanted G to wak only at her side; I didn't care if she walked ahead).
I think it helps to write down your goals and expectations of the animal -- this helps YOU get it straight.
