I forgot about week 2, but it's about week 3 now so I shall give a Rowdy update.  He had his 9 week shots recently and was such a good boy at the clinic, no whining, nothing. My boy is tough. Downside, they didn't mellow him out like the last set did... so he was extra energetic because he got to go on an adventure. We still had some fun :)

This little man has a lot of energy. He also is very stubborn and is living up to my name. I've been patient, consistent, and telling myself like a be a broken record: he's just a puppy, he'll learn, it's okay.

He's been growing so fast! He's already twice the puppy I brought home with me. The left ear is standing and the right one is about 70% there. He can now successfully jump on the couch (aka futon). He has also been successfully getting into EVERYTHING. He's already chewed my phone charger in half, put a scratch (from his teeth) on my brand new laptop, and ripped a hole in the corner of the carpet. All in the name of puppy love.  I've been giving him water bottles to play with, which he loves, especially the gallon one he can't get a grip on.

He's learning all the classic dog things with (mostly) ease. He now sits on command, sits when I put his leash on, and sits before getting his dinner. He plays fetch with the tennis ball for quite a while now before he's bored and moves on. This week we started "lay down" and he's doing iffy on it. I think he gets it, but knows if he just sits and gives me the "Bolt" look, I can't resist. I try to be strong. When I go to reprimand him, I am met with a very obvious "backtalk" bark. It's very specific. My mother said it sounds like he's mimicking me.It's cute, but ever-so-slightly frustrating when I'm trying to be serious... I can't help but giggle at it. He's been great at taking his baths as well. He LOVES the water.

I still can't wait until he is old enough for puppy school. He needs to learn manners and to NOT bite mommy. I'm running out of ways to correct him, popping him didn't do anything, squeezing his muzzle did nothing as well. I don't believe he's teething anymore, and retaliates after you reprimand him for his biting with jumping back and biting harder. It concerns me a little, but I'm waiting for him to possibly grow out of it. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

Have to keep this update short and sweet, the little man is ready to PLAY.

Sometimes he's playing with me, cuz he'll start frapping right after and sometimes he bares his teeth and snarls, that's when he ends up in timeout. It's 50/50 for the most part.

I bought some Blue Buffalo training treats. but now i regret it because there isn't a lot in the bag and it was 6 dollars lol so i read on the forums that some people use small hot dog pieces for training. or cheese bits. anything soft, tiny, and super tasty works.

Thank you for that video! :) I think we're going to get him a clicker on Monday when I'm off... Does anyone have recommendations on good training treats? The treats he has now, he likes them, but they are kinda crunchy so it takes him a while to down it and he ends up losing focus... maybe a good soft chew kinda treat?

this video is for biting, mouthing, and licking. and it refers to another lady's channel for other videos on this same subject :D

clicker is positive reinforcement. and you can "capture" good behaviors with clicker training. I'm watching pamelamarxsen on youtube. she has some great videos for clicker training. and the clicker that i bought comes with a dvd too :D I'm excited to start using it.

NILF is "nothing in life is free". like if you're dog doesn't do what you want, you ignore it until it does what you want it to do, then you reward it. like say he wants to go outside, but he's all excited. you don't let him outside until he calms down. He'll learn that he has to be calm if he wants to go for a walk. or something along those lines lol I haven't quite become the expert yet ;]

I was raised on popping the dog on the nose too, so I did it naturally the first few times, but am trying the "squeeze the muzzle" attempt because I feel like a bad mommy when I pop him. My opinions changed when I got older too :)

I was thinking about the clicker! Now, is the clicker for good or bad behavior (or either)?  What's NILF?

when i was growing up, if a puppy/dog bit or nipped. we smacked it. in the face and said "no" firmly.  but I don't condone hitting a dog in any way now that I'm all grown up and have opinions lol

you should look into clicker training. or NILF training. I'm no expert on either. but that's what I'm studying now.

Hopefully he will just grow out of it. :]

I know it will be worth it. He has his "good dog" days and his "bad dog" days... Today happens to be a "bad dog" day. :)  He obliterated my carpet (there goes my deposit) and got me pretty good a couple of times. He went for a long stern time out in the darkened bathroom to calm down and I've just given him a cereal box... he seems calmer and sorry. I'm a very patient person with animals, so I can't wait until it pays off! :)

My carly did the same thing when she bit me, i squeezed her mouth she got madder, i even flicked her nose she got even mad...

Over the past 8 months ive tired walking away, putting her in crate, giving her a toy , saying no in a firm voice, hollering ouch,  saying no teeth....only kisses, you name it ive done it, and im not quite sure which of those things worked but she has stopped and im grateful, so grateful..

I did go to puppy classes twice and she has tons of things to chew which satisfy the need..

Im sure someone else on here will have much better advise, but i had to say i understand and have been there with a very strong willed hyper female... so i sympathize

They are so worth all the time and energy you put into training, i promise...
