Yeah, Jack's mom was red and dad was red-headed tri. They think perhaps the sabling comes from a "weak red" that allows the recessive dark-coated genes to very minimally express, I think.

I would go with Sable, if you had to pick one (though I don't think you'd be wrong classifying her as a red!!), though she seems like a sable/red mix. She actually has a lot of black on her back, it seems, but her face doesn't have hardly any sableing. She's also a nice color of red, and sable are usually more tan, mixed with the black, so I'd agree with Beth and say she's red with sableing (i've changed my stance like 3 times! XD).

One breeder I went to, the grandma dog was pure red, but her daughter was red with some blackish patches on her shoulders. I think it can just come out, especially if breeding a tri and a red. KC also seems to have spotty legs which doesn't seem as normal so her color genes are probably mixed =).

My corgi looked very similar to yours and his AKC registration said he was "red with markings".

If you look carefully at some of my pics of Jack, you will see he has sabling on his back and the backs of his ears.

I had one knowledgeable breeder say he's sable. I had another say Jack was technically red-and-white with sabling, and that to be "sable" he would need to show more dark hairs. LOL Not sure what the cut-off is between the two, to be honest.
