Thanks, Kristen. I have lotsa photos of my boys. But wanted to respond quickly about Riley.
Degenerative myelopathy is the most heart-breaking disease imaginable. I have lost three dogs to cancer. It is never easy to put a dog to sleep. But when you know they are in pain, it makes the decision clearer.
DM dogs are alert but apparently not in pain. So knowing when is the right time to let them go is very hard. That is why every owner of a dog with DM needs guidance about keeping their dogs comfortable and happy for as long as possible.
Dylan is a 13-year-old red and Tyler is an 18-month-old Tri.
They actually look a lot like the two corgis shown on the right-hand-side of the home page of this Web site.
Thanks for the welcome! This will be my first Corgi so I am new to the breed. I grew up raising a pomeranian, who is a fiesty/stubborn little guy, and I'm looking forward to raising a Corgi!
Thanks Kristen, great pics. I'd love to get another corgie but I have a roommate with a border collie who doesn't care for other dogs. One more character like Jack around and Cosmo (the border collie) will have a meltdown.
We have mares here right now and are focusing on the breeding. We have 2 racing and have had several others racing. Over the last 3-4 years we lost 2 mares to colic and 2 fantastic 2-year olds in training due to freak accidents. We just couldn't take the emotional toll anymore and are phasing out the racing. We learned about corgis from one of the farms we visited regarding our horses. Loved them on sight.
I'm also sorry to hear about your loss. You never forget, just realize how happy they were when you had them. I always found the best way to help was to give another the same happiness.
My corgie is a tri. I saw him at 3 weeks. Can't wait to get him. We also have cats and thoroughbreds. We'll have lots of practice herding, carefully of course.
Thanks for your kind words. Im afraid she has not improved. Yes she is a pretty girl. Only about 10lbs overweight, but hey if I get to her age with some extra pounds, i wont mind so much. I will wait untill I see the vet again before making any decision.
Thanks for the compliment on my fence! It was quite the adventure... but we got it done and the pups love it! My neighbor came over and asked if it was some sort of special fencing since we put it up ourselves. I just laughed, I guess I'm just used to doing things myself. I'm pretty sure that Griffen does pick up radar messages with his contraption... that would explain his random outbursts of growling and attacking his bed :D
Thanks for the warm welcome. I guess I am cool enough to own a corgi, although people keep asking me if he's a shepherd mix. ;) Guess they're kinda uncommon in my area.
Well I know you feel bad about Lizzie, but don't feel too bad. My last dog's stomach flipped last summer (torsion/bloat) and I still feel guilty about it like there was something I should have done differently. It is sad, but unfortunate things just happen sometimes beyond our control.
Kristen, someone once warned me that I should NEVER live on a farm or ranch. As I am country girl at heart through and through, this greatly confused me. They later explained that it was because they knew that if I had the space... I would fill it. I read your post about the airdale. I wanted to tell you that I appreciate your concern and love for animals and your willingness to do something about it! I greatly admire you.
I read your post on GoCorgi about Lizzie. It's hard for an animal-lover to believe that anyone could hit a dog or cat and not stop at the closest house, instead just drive off. Very happy that she made a full recovery and is lively and playful! : - ) Thanks for posting. I'm sure your information is very helpful to Bienchen.
Oh my goodness! I guess vehicles are a big fear! Charlie doesn't go off leash since we take walks down a fairly busy city street. He did scare me once, when he slipped his collar with lots of cars coming. Fortunately he just sat there. It surprised me he didn't go darting off.
