I have been considering it for a while. I guess if I do one again I would like to have quite a few there. Last one I did I had over 12 saying they were coming and ended up having 3 show. A bit of a let down so we will see. I'm thinking of definitely doing one once the weather gets cold and it's hard to brave the winter just for the exercise of your pup. Have you ever been to a meetup? They are a blast.
Hi Britney,
Thanks so much for your reply in the Indiana Corgis group. I appreciate you taking time to respond! Your Sydnei is beautiful... her markings remind me a bit of our Edith. :)
I took a look at Harris-how could I not? But I really do want to stick to a puppy (most likely a male, with a laid back personality) as Edith tends to be the dominant dog in our household. Even though Walter was larger, older, and here first, he deferred to her. She is the stereotype female corgi.
Thanks again for your help!
Rhonda
It makes me sad to know they were kept like that. I called many of her references and they all gave raving reviews. Like I said, I had meta puppy that came from her that was amazing. She was very friendly with me, and I'm only 19!
I know it's not the best idea to buy from a breeder you can't go check out first, but what options are left when you're not happy with any of the local ones and can't spend hundreds and hundreds traveling back and forth to visit?
As for the hernia, I had it checked out by a vet that said it wasn't a health risk, and cosmetic only, therefore the contract didn't cover it. He's 9 months old now, and though he has no problems with it, and you can't even see it under his fur, I think I'll take him in next month and have it fixed up.
I don't like supporting a breeder that I don't agree with their practices, but at the same time, there is no way I can look at Grissom and wish I had gone elsewhere. He may not have been in the very best hands then, and I may disagree with how she keeps them, but the temperment of her dogs is absolutely amazing. At 9 months, he will sit, stay, wait to be told to eat, walk unleashed, let me brush his teeth, shake, perfect recall, wonderful with even small children that want to pick and pull at him.... he's just amazing.
It depends...Blizzard was "pet quality" not "show prospect" so he was less. Ballpark is $800-$1500. I don't remember exactly but Blizzard was somewhere in the mid range of that. Best to contact the breeder though. Sometimes females are more than males, pedigree, etc. I would have gladly paid 10X that for the happiness he brings everyday! =)
I saw that, if I was in the position to get another, I'd take him.
I did not get a chance to go see her place. I don't believe in buying sigh-un-seen, but I knew one of the dogs that came from her, and like I said, when I saw his picture, he was mine. The litter were all red & whites, very similar faces, and I could still pick him out of an unmarked picture.
I didn't like that she feeds incredibly low quality foods. Also, he had an umbilical hernia that I felt should have been fixed before he was sent to me, but it wasn't. His temperment is absolutely perfect though.
Was her place really that bad? Would you mind describing it for me since I didn't get to see it? I contacted a couple of her previous customers and they all kind of mentioned that but didn't go into details. Just said it was clean, they were taken care of, BUT caged often. :-(
On the up side, Grissom is totally comfortable and quiet in a crate, perhaps that's why?
I was living in Denver at the time and wasn't impressed with any of the local breeders. I was working at a daycare and there was a Corgi that used to come that I was very impressed with. I asked where they got him and they refered me to her.
I was looking for a tricolor female at the time, but when I saw his picture, it was over. He was mine. I don't agree with 100% of how she does things, but I had a positive experience with her, and have been absolutely delighted with Grissom. She's done with Corgis now though. She has two female pups up right now, and then she's done.
I saw on the Corgi Relative search group that you also got your Corgi from Lonestar Puppy Palace!! I got Grissom from Tracey as well. Parents are Trouble & Harris, litter born November 6, 2008.
Hey everybody! I just called a few places to see who we could do a meet up with and I was only able to find one pet resort that would let us. It is in Castleton, IN. We would basically rent out an area for a couple of hours and let them run. I will get more details on everything tomorrow. The manager has to call me back for pricing and times and such. I was thinking 1-3 on a sat or sun? It would probably be around a month from now. Please let me know if you are interested and what would be best for you. I will do my best to get the most popular day and time.
