Good to know.. growing up I wanted a border collie and ducks. Then I fell in love with Corgis.. but I could still go for a couple of ducks. I suppose I'll have to check the city ordinances for that one :) Thank you for all your great advice- perfect for us first timers.
Thanks for the kind words Di. That is my goal and I think this forum is a way for me to reach many people. I adore our enchanted breed and hope to make life good for as many as I can. Rescue puts one in a totally new mindset. I see how many great dogs are given up by no fault of their own and how quickly they respond to an appropriate home. So many problems can be fixed with a bit of learning, training and practice. So much information is available on the net and I find it sad that more folks dont use this to their advantage BEFORE getting that cute pup.
I like the picture with the geese! Our vet asked us when we were going to get Owen some geese to herd :) I told him when he learns to herd the socks without trying to swallow them when we are doing laundry then we'd talk. Looks like your dogs are having a blast!
Thanks for your reply. The long ear hair is not there but the head and face hair is longer on those two. and the coat hair seems stiff and not soft and shiny but there is definitely a different look than the three with typical normal coats at this age. Of course fluffy or not, nothing is cuter than a corgi puppy
You're welcome Sam. I appreciate your knowledge and wisdom in all things "Corgi" and I'm a sucker for all the heart tuggers. In my old age quality means so much more, if you know what I mean.
Hi Sam, I have a quick little question for you, if you don't mind. I noticed that on a post a little while back you said you give your dogs glyco-flex. Lola hurt her leg and we're treating it right now. But I was wondering if this would be good for her as a precautionary for something that could happen. Also I was wondering where you can purchase it. I tried looking online, but it reffered me to Veterinarian Affiliate Links. Thanks so much for your time, and help =)
Thank you for the advice. I will look into the cranberry capsules. After her back surgery she experienced paralysis and we had to purge her bladder for her. That's pretty much when the problem began. We couldn't fully expel the contents or clean her as well as she does. She ended up with 2 strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria and 4-6 weeks of antibiotics. The vet cultures before and after antibiotics and the resistant strains do not grow. She did eat bad doggie food on the recall list but only for a short period of time. I will try and clean her, I think.
Thank you for your reply!
HI Sam, not sure if we were "friends" at the time so don't know if you got invites. I started 2 groups yesterday...Inspirational Corgis and Mature/Senior Corgis. You may be interested in joining one or even better, both! Hope to see you there. They are both very active already.
Sam,
Have you seen the videos of Bobbie's dog Candy doing obedience and agility in a cart? Maybe you could get Deion interested in doing something like that? I couldn't believe how well Candy does in his cart. Talk about inspirational.
Our good thoughts and best wishes that Deion gets to enjoy several more years with you.
Hi Sam, saw your comment on "blowing coat" My dog, Butter, started what I call extreme shedding on his body about 3-4 weeks ago, he is now starting to shed his mane but his still losing as much body hair. We furbuster about once a day and have to vacuum 1-2 times per day. When he walks across the floor, hair drops on it. I have never seen anything like it. He seems healthy. Is this normal? Please give me some hope, how long will this last? Also, when and why do they shed in the fall. We live in Canada and so have more extreme season changes, is that why he is shedding so much? I would relaly appreciate it if you are able to answer any of these questions. Thanks, Joy and Buttercup
Yes, I did choose a fluff pup. I have 4 normal coated pems, 1 normal coated cardigan and my terv boy. Gelly did come from a very nice breeding with a pedigree I like very much. There were several fluffs in the litter but she was a stand out to me. Fluffs are just darling even though they can not be shown in the confirmation ring. They can do any other AKC event and some of us just love that extra coat. More grooming but less shedding. Keep up the good work with your girl, I can see she is smiling in her pictures.
oooyes, fluff, extra nice quality! did you know she was to be a fluff? i did not, and wanted just a 'normal' corgi! hehe, now i want a fluff boy! -------someday!
oo yes, it is fun, agility but most importantly, we bond, we bond and she and i are really more bonded than ever before.....she loves doing well, and w hen she misses things, hehhehe, i do not tell her!
i let her think she is great and perfect all the time!
thanks sam, yes we keep things light, and i do not say she does the wrong obstacle, i carry on.....she is one to get frustrated and then clamp down -----------that is her!
so i keep it light and praise and treats....she gets hyper and i rev her up with............are you ready....??? wannna do agility????
she is doing so much better....makes me feel, i can do it!
she is 5 yrs old...started at age, 1 and half ,but she would have horrible recall, so i went back to obedience for a yr and did show obed stuff, she did not like it but she did earn a RN, rally novice....but i love agility and so does she!
thanks for coming by and commenting!
smiles : )
what agility fare do you like best, akc, usdaa, cpe, what???
Thanks Sam! I've noticed you always offer such wonderful advice!! Your time and opinions are truly appreciated! I really like your idea of tying his lead to me. Kuma doesn't mind his collar so much (he still scratches at it), but his lead makes him go a little crazy. I think I just need to spend more time with him on it.
There's actually a dog class offered at an extremely large and great park here in Sacto and we're probably leaning toward that one. Do you think there's any issue with it being outside? Is that more of a plus or negative? They require vaccinations, don't allow puppies under 14 weeks and match up playmates based on size and personality.
Thank you, Sam! That was definitely helpful and good to know. Fortunately, I am confident in my breeder, but you can never be too cautious. Vet, on the other hand... well, I haven't had the chance to meet her, but I've gotten great referrals so hopefully *crosses fingers* all works out well.
