oh okay he's still holding his leg up but I've been carrying him around when he needs to move somewhere. I put some ice on it which he gladly accepted. I don't think it's broken because he was laying on his back kicking his legs around playing with my baby cousin.

Keep him crated for now. No stairs or running or leaping or walking. When I evacuated Al from the mountains -- not knowing what the problem was -- our breeder suspected ACL injury, and was quite strict with me. She said to keep him confined, not give him any opportunity to exacerbate the injury until I got a diagnosis. Dogs hide pain, they process it differently than we do. Hard to diagnose. I dumped $300+ justlikethat on the vet visit. The diagnosis was inconclusive, but it was not the worst.
I believe you can give aspirin to dogs -- those 81 mg low-dose tablets -- but I wouldn't do this with a suspected bruise because aspirin increases clotting time.
I made an appointment with the vet for later today but I don't know if I should take him in if it's just bruised because the vet can get expensive if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated if it doesn't get better I will take him.
