We spent the night at the summit of Mt. Daniel, almost 8000', central Washington Cascades. Although it has a well-worn climbers' path to the top, much of the trail is really rough, and it includes snow travel and rock scrambling, about 8 miles and 4600' elevation gain.
Gwynnie's rock climbing ability amazes me; her experience really shows.
We enjoyed a stunning sunset, night, and morning at almost 8000'.
The east-side glacier and permanent snow that were still here 11 years ago are almost entirely gone. Where my 9 y.o. daughter and I did a long, steep, exhilarating snow glissade down into a vast snow bowl 11 years ago, there is now nothing but bare rock, rubble, and dust. It is frightening -- and very sad -- to see the changes. Just the past 5 years show an astonishing difference.

Amazing, John. But, of course, we don't have global warming, do we?

What a view! And what a climb, especially for a corgi! Gwynnie looks mighty majestic curled up in the rocks. She sure is one mighty corgi!!!!
