Teaching a Corgi to File Its Own Nails

Bernie is a 2.5 year old pembroke welsh corgi. She tolerates paw touching but would prefer to do things herself so I decided to teach her how to file her own nails to save us both stress.

Using a technique called shaping through clicker training Bernie learns how to scratch the doggie nail file board I made for her. This was our first session and she made tremendous progress.

That's sooooo great. Skeezix and I will be revisiting our clicker. Although he doesn't have fraidy paws, there are other things I'm going to try such as lying down paws up to have the dirt towled off.

That is fantastic! Pixie doesn't like files or clippers too much when my husband or I have them. However, she's fine with the groomers or vet. I have no idea why. Teaching her to file her own nails would save lots of money and time. Thanks for posting this.

I just wanted to let you know that Pixie also has about a five minute tolerance for training. I have to start something new or she gets bored.
