Pet Armour Plus

Boo Boo the Bear isn't our first dog; but he is our first Corgi. We had a cocker spaniel & a scotty terrier, Ripley & Toby respectively.

I was unaware of the flea medications out there with Rips and Tobers so the inevitable happened, and I had a flea infestation in my house. OMG! the cost was horrid... I think I spent almost $1000 trying to get rid of them that summer.

Now I'm wiser and started using frontline plus, but I've read in my consumer reports magazine that the patent on Frontline Plus has expired, allowing generic forms of the flea medication to be produced. If the generic flea medication is anything like human drug generics, then I'm all for that.

I put some Pet Armour Plus on Boo Boo this past weekend since he's over 8 weeks, and I didn't want a repeat of the infestation; but I see him scratching a bit. I'm not sure if it's just his collar he's not liking or if it's actual fleas (god I hope not).

Has anyone tried the Pet Armour Plus???? If so what are your feelings versus frontline plus? If Boo Boo doesn't stop the scratching, I'm taking him into the vet -- I don't want to be doubling up on flea meds without vet okaying it, especially since he's just a puppy.

Comment by Melissa and Franklin! on July 19, 2011 at 2:26am: If you had a flea problem you are likely not going to see results right away after the first application. It may take 2-3 months with vacuuming every 2 days to get all the fleas out. If you put a topical on all of your pets you should see an end to an infestation within 2 or 3 months but you have to be patient. Also so vets will even recommend rotating the flea meds (ie frontline, advantage, back to frontline) to kill any fleas that are resistant to one medication over the other.

It says on the pet armor website that it contains the exact same concentration of fipronil and methorpene (sp?) as Frontline so I'd assume its the exact same product. I myself always like to wait until a product has been out for a year or more to use it because they always seem to have some little issues that need worked out.

Comment by John Wolff on July 19, 2011 at 12:42am: We had good results with FleaBusters years ago in Seattle when we had 1 cat. They dust your carpets & upholstery with polyborate salts (dessicant, not a neurotoxin). It was effective far past its guarantee. YMMV in different climate and carpet situations.
We use Advantix now; fleas are not a huge problem, but they'd pick up ticks in the mountains.
