Rose had to pee very often and she sometimes didn't make it outside. This was not her normal behavior. In addition, I caught a sample on a plastic plate and it showed signs of infection (very small blood dots in her urine). An easy way to have it checked and can save the cost of an office vet visit is to capture a sample and take it to your vet. Our vet told us that samples are best when captured first pee in the morning. We found catching a sample on a plastic plate, then pouring it into a zip lock to take to the vet an easy method. ;0)

What are some of the signs that your dog could have a bladder infection?
Bella has messed in the house twice now & its not normal for her. She is 11 months old & has been potty-trained since she was 3 months old.
The second time I caught her doing it, it almost seemed like she just couldn't hold it & just HAD to pee right there & then. Is it something I should have checked out?

Thank you all for your comments. Rose has been spayed and does lick herself quite a bit. After she recovers from this one, I think I will add some cranberry to her diet as a perventive measure. Again, thank you!

My Charlotte has had several bladder infections. My vet says one cause is that she can't lick herself to clean, like most dogs can, and bacteria can build up. Also, squatting so low in the grass, could be peeing close to duck poop, etc. I am mostly just viligant about watching her for signs and symptoms. She tends to become lethargic, and once I thought she had slipped a disc. She acted like she couldn't move her back legs, but you could feel how hot she was from the fever. Clavamox seems to be the best treatment.

We feed our dogs Dick Van Patten's - Ultra Premium. They all have been doing very well on it. We also give them a multi-vitamin supplement and fish oil. One of our dogs (Ayla - female catahoula X) has inhalant and wheat allergies. Hope this helps.

Thanks. this is her first and she has been on Ultra Naturals - Puppy for about 5 months. I will keep this in mind if she has more of them.

My friends dog has bladder infections and the vet told her to change her food that it could be an allergic reaction. Is this her first infection or does she have them often?
