I love the Wisconsin -Cheesehead Corgi Picnic.  I plan to go to that as well.  (If the weather is good and there is no flu issue.)

We have gone every year for the last 4 years.  It is well worth the drive.

I have stayed away from shots for myself, too and rarely get anything in the way of a virus.  Occasionally get some bad food at a restaurant and pay the price, but not the flu.  Hopefully there won't be an outbreak locally, but I agree that if there is, Corgi-Con should wait until a better time.  Hope the canine flu doesn't spread around here and the event will be a "go" as we all have a great time.

We plan to attend the Wisconsin picnic in the fall and hopefully everything will have worked its way through before then.

I talked to my breeder, my vet, and my dog trainer.  I think of this flu shot like the one that people get.  It works sometimes, but there is always a new strain that it will not work on.  I personally don't get flu shots for myself, but I never get the flu.  If there is a K9 flu outbreak I would either get my Corgis the shot or keep them home.

I still have only heard of one dog in town that came down with the flu.  It is the same one you talked about that came down from Chicago.  If it stops there, we will have CORGI-CON.  If it starts to spread we will have to cancel. Gotta be safe with our beloved Corgis.

The Dog Park Open House scheduled for May 1, 2015 has been cancelled.  So there is a possiblity that we may have to as well.  For now the plan is to watch and wait. I just wanted people to be aware and watch for any updates.

Kevin has been in contact with our vet as he inquired about getting a vaccination for Kallie & Thor against this flu.  We were informed that there is currently no vaccine for this virus strain.  We were also told that there has been only the one case reported in the area and that was a dog which was brought here from Chicago where he had been exposed to the virus.  Let's hope it stays at just that one and that Corgi-Con will be held as planned.  It is an event we all look forward to and would be greatly missed if cancellation is required.

Just a heads up....

The Urbana Park District contacted me today that they are concerned about the K9 Flu. They stated that they will close the dog park if we have a flu outbreak in Champaign/Urbana.  I have only heard of one case in Champaign so far.  I will keep an eye on the situation.  If we need to cancel CORGI-CON I will post the information here.

Let's hope all our dogs stay healthy!

Lisa ..... I did receive your e-mail.  I thought I sent you a response, but I haven't had time to look and see if it was sent or is still in my outbox.  Your breeder's approach on how she decides as to which puppy goes where is definitely interesting.  That is wonderful that you were able to give Will a home.  We have a high opinion of the breeder of Kevin's two and even though she knows I likely will not be getting another Corgi puppy any time soon, she has maintained regular contact with Kevin and me and follows Kallie and Thor's classes, titles, etc.  Sounds like both you and Kevin chose responsible and caring breeders.  See you at Corgi-Con.

I wrote you an E-mail.  Hope you got that.

My breeder is in IOWA.  She only has ONE litter every year or two.  So I don't think that is what you are looking for.

She also does not let you PICK a puppy.  SHE picks according to personality and what you plan to do with that puppy as far as training, traveling, your kids, and your lifestyle.  We expressed that we wanted a dog we could take anywhere and we got Wynne.  Wynne was the most confident, outgoing puppy I have ever seen.  She still is!  We also told her that my husband wanted a sweet boy like Wynne's grandfather. Later she GAVE us a 2 year old cuddler name Will.  Will's owner had died of cancer and needed a new home.

We are very happy with our breeder/friend.

Lisa ........... if possible, could you share your breeder's information with me privately by e-mail.  We get questions regularly about where to purchase Corgi puppies.  Our breeder is a long distance from here, in Missouri.  She ships, but if most people are like me, I like to see and choose the one I want rather than just online.  If your breeder does not want her information shared, that is okay.

You are RIGHT!  All Corgi puppies are CUTE!

A friend of mine and I are going to see a litter of Corgi puppies on Friday.  The pups are from my breeder so I am going with this friend.  I can't wait to see them.  I want to get my puppy fix!  They will be 6 weeks old.  My friend will pick one up in about a month to take it home.

So...next year maybe she can join us for CORGI-CON 2016.
