Sammi was a year old on 11/14. Three days later I noticed a bum on his side. Am going to the vet Thursday. Scared to death!!! I've had older dogs with "fatty cysts"...but the first vet said it was a tumor and we should wait and see if it grows before we put him under anesthesia. The secod opinion is this Thursday. I can't find any "prone to" postings on any websites...any ideas?

A year old dog with a fatty cyst is unusual I would think. I just went throught the same thing with my corgi mixed. It started out the size of a dime in February, and by August, it was the size of a golf ball. I had her to the vet's in February and then June, to have them look at it and document it. By August we determined to have it removed and tested. It was a cancerous tumor, but the vet thinks we may have gotten to it in time. Now, she gets weekly chest and belly rubs to see if anymore have appeared. The bad news is that one could develop inside her lungs and we wouldn't know about it until it was too late.

So, I suggest you have a vet look at it, keep a close eye on it for it's growth. If it grows real fast, have it removed and tested. It would ease your mind.
Thanks! Keep your fingers and toes crossed. Good luck and prayers to your puppy!
How is Sammi? How did the second opinion go?
Hooray!!!!! Just got the biopsy report back at lunchtime today - it shows only imflamation...no cancerous cells, or the vet put it, "Nothing scary like that". Thank you for your reply and for remembering. Happy (Happier!!!!) Holidays!
That is great news!!
Has Sammie had vaccinations recently? I know Moira gets a fatty-like lump every time she gets vaccinated. It can be sore and takes a few weeks to go down.
