Thank you for posting this, and I am very sorry Lola has not been doing well. Take care and keep us updated on how she's doing.
I am really nervous now after reading this. Kirby is on the Nutro Weight Control formula. He has been fine, but I notice every now and then he gets diarrhea. I usually dont take it too seriously thinking he might of ate something else, or sometimes they just get stomach aches, but now I am generally worried about this..
This is not the first time I've heard of this! I had bought a bag of Nutro at a pet supply store a few months ago thinking I would switch Ginny over from the Purina I had been feeding her (I knew I didn't want to keep her on a low-quality food) at the recommedation of one of the pet supply store employees. When I got home I googled Nutro and ran across several sites of people complaining that their dogs were getting sick or dying after eating Nutro. At this point I had already dumped the bag of food into a storage bin so I couldn't return it, but I was really worried and I did not want to even risk feeding it to my puppy so I ended up throwing it all away. I went on another website that ranks dogfood and found a six-star food called Orijen and researched it. That's the one I ended up purchasing. It is expensive, but it is high quality food and I want my dog to have a long and healthy life, so I really think it will be worth it in the long run. There are lots of really good foods out there, but most of the really nutritious ones are more costly because they're made with better ingredients. With all the dog food recalls that happened last year, it's scary to think of what could be in the food our babies are eating. I didn't want to take any chances!
its now official Kirby was getting sick more often and it is because of the Nutro Dog food. I noticed Kirby was having diarrhea and I thought that someone had been sneaking him table scraps in my house. This was not the case. As days passed Kirby had gotten worse..barely touching his food, and yesterday he threw up. I gave him water and set his food down for him if he wanted to pick at it when his stomach started feeling better. Instead Kirby pushed the bowl away with his nose which told me it was the food. I was at my sisters house so I asked her if I could try some of her dogs food which was Eukaneba, I put that in Kirbys bowl and he scarfed it up. So now I know its the food. But now I am stuck with a 40lb bag of food that he refuses to eat it. I dont really like the Eukaneba size bag and the feed bin doesnt sell it. Can anyone recommend a good food for Corgi's?
Did you slowly mix in the new food with the old?
he refuses to eat the Nutro..I tried and he picked out the other food..he pushes the Nutro away with his nose! He hasnt gotten sick since the eukanuba..so I hoping all will be ok
okay, this have nothing to do with nutro food, but when you buy a new bag of food, you want to ease in and mix in with the old stuff, that will help adjust their tummy and not get diarrhea, I also do the same when I switch flavor and not brand.
we just got a corgi, Penny, 3 days ago - and we started her on Nutro puppy food - is there something better we should be giving her? My parents also feed their 2 doxies Nutro - I don't want to make them sick :(
ok so I went on the dog food analysis site and the Eukaneuba is low rated. I need to figure out the right food for Kirby. I looked up one called Orijen and that had six stars and another called Canidae or something like that and that one had 5 stars, now the question is where do I purchase these from? I dont recall seeing either of the two at Petco..Please help!
I just started Lola on Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul & she's doing a lot better! We also had to get her on anti-biotics for her diharreha, so that probably helped too, but the food has been good so far :)
I went to our local feed bin yesterday and purchased the Canidae brand food for Kirby. I have heard nothing but good things on this food, and I did research and it was given 5 stars. I know I am supposed to mix the old food with the new food, but Kirby refuses to touch it if the Nutro is near it. I think the Nutro defenitely has something wrong with it and he can since that. I dont want to take the chances of him getting sick by eating the Nutro. So I did what I wasnt supposed to and gave him the Canidae by itself. Kirby really seemed to like it. I hope his stomach takes to it well. SO far everything has been good.
I use California Natural. I'm not sure what the benefits are, but I've never had any problem with it and I've heard really good things about it. I used to use Science Diet, but it caused my corgi to poop....a lot...like 5 times a day and it wasn't always a good consistency. Plus, Science Diet was making her breath smell really bad. Once I changed to California Natural she's been a lot better and I can actually see her coat is shiny without using conditioner on her.

Oh, I use the Chicken Soup canned food sometimes as a special meal for my Corgi. I really like it. You can actually see the veggies in it and there's no risk of diarrhea.
