It is not at all uncommon for dogs to throw up. Mine pukes every now and then for no apparent reason, and it usually is foamy when she throws up on an empty stomach. What I've learned is that repeated vomiting should cause concern and possible vet attention. Once or twice is no big deal.

And I too have heard pork chops are dangerous because they are smaller and can be broken into shards.

Thanks everyone....He seems fine. Hasn't tried to throw up again. Has drinken water. He ate his normal breakfast of Canidae kibble. Has had 2 normal bowel movements. I've given him 2 milkbones (around noon) so that his stomach isn't empty (in case that has anything to do with it).
When my husband gave him the bone, it was so large that we just thought he would knaw on it. A few minutes later we went to see how he was enjoying it and it was gone....we searched everywhere and so he must have eaten it. Yeah, I was concerned about it sticking....I should know by tomorrow if he has passed it. I think he must have ground it up in order to swallow it, let's hope. I don't plan to ever give him a bone again, now to convince my husband...he thinks I worry about the dog too much, well that and the possibility of large vet bills!!!

Maybe I should always feed him 2 medium milkbones at bedtime so that his stomach is full; it may prevent vomiting. We eat dinner really early; he is usually fed between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. But I always try to remember to give him a milkbone at bedtime. He is a large-framed dog (47 lbs and not fat) so maybe he should have 2 because he has a large build and larger stomach. What do you think? Thanks for your help

That's good to know. I questioned my husband about the bone again when he came home from work and he said it was a knuckle (?) Do you know anything about them? Maybe not as serious as a cooked bone? He just ate dinner about 1/2 an hour ago and hasn't vomited so here is hoping that he is fine.

PS I would be worried about bacteria in raw meat. Do you know anything about tartar busters (cow's knuckles). I bought him one to chew on. I noticed it had an odour, like maybe an artificial flavouring. I am trying to avoid all chemicals in his food...except I am sure there are some in milkbones. Maybe someday I'll make his own biscuits but not for now. If you know anything about the safety of these things please advise me. Thank you so much for all your help!!!

No offense taken. You are right; we are living in a bacteria ridden world thanks to misuse of antibiotics and over sanitation of everything!!! At our local hospital, suddenly problem with superbugs...pretty scary.

I know some dogs throw up when they drink water too fast. I doubt this is the case with Buster since he hasn't done it before. Just giving you a heads up =)

oh yeah, he does this but it is really different. It happens within a minute. He is a little pig for water and literally inhales it. Thanks for the heads up though.

Thanks everyone....Buster is great today; no vomiting this am and normal bowel movements. Think is was an empty stomach, so now giving him 2 milkbones before bed. Thanks so much for caring, Joy
